View Full Version : DVD by post - not found a good service yet.
theflyingfish 01-02-2005, 09:21 OK, I am a member of Amazon and am trying the trial month on blockbuster. Basically I want to watch TV series, especially the sopranos, but so far neither blockbuster or amazon have had any sopranoes available to rent, and block buster is sending me stuff from about position 12 on my list which means that they don't have 10-11 films that I want to watch more?!
Amazon is kind of good becasue it tells you how long you have to wait for a disc (but all the stuff I want is "very long wait" arrgh nut you only get 6 discs a month.
Blockbuster seems to navigate better, but there is nothing to say how long you have to wait till a movie becomes available.
Anybody know a good DVD by post service that combines the good things from amazon and blockbuster?
Cheers
eviljock 01-02-2005, 09:27 We're trying out Screen Select after a friend recommended it. So far it has been excellent - DVDs arrive quickly, you get three at home at any one time. We did compile a huge list though and quite a lot of the stuff we want is "old" i.e. more than a couple of years since it was in the cinema. We have put down some TV stuff like the Sopranos but haven't had one of them yet. Mind you, we've only been doing it for a month so early days to give a definitive opinion. Check them out at http://www.screenselect.co.uk/visitor/home.html
alchresearch 01-02-2005, 12:06 I use lovefilm.com, which used to be moviechoices.com
The service has been great, films arrive very quickly and, in some cases, before the official release date.

do they largely send movies out ion the order on your list? Any problems getting hold of latest discs, such as latest releases?
fnkysknky 01-02-2005, 16:30 Been using Blockbuster months and still haven't had the Office or Shawshank Redemption which are our top 2 - not surprising though when there is no limit on how long you can keep 'em especially when it comes to series.
LoveFilm baby!
Free months trial and they get you the films you want very quick and I've ordered new releases too.
ie: Village, Dodgeball- out monday had them this morning!
Magic!!
LesMcQueen 04-02-2005, 12:55 I've tried Lovefilm, Blockbuster and ChoicesDirect.
Blockbuster don't have the selection (hardly any TV series DVDs)
ChoicesDirect didn't package their discs very well. Disc were sent in a flimsy plastic envelope, and posted in a polythene bag. Most were smashed/cracked when I got them
Lovefilm have been great - Highly recommended.
One issue that I have is when renting box sets. Sometimes the discs get sent out of order. Not really a problem if you've got a <cough> DVD Burner <cough>.

Also a "friend" has managed to open up free month trials by using the same credit/debit card and just a new email address for each trial account<cough>
I wouldnt try it myself though.
Because that would be naughty <cough>
Tesco DVD club is good too -
on tesco.com website.
