Where was Broad Oak Green, Eccleshall in 1861? Where is it now?

On the 1855 map it was just about where Broad Elms Close is now, and there used to be a school called Broad Oak School where there's now a school called Broad Elms school.

Why the change from Oak to Elm I wonder ? Perhaps the common Oak wasn't classy enough for the folk of S11 :D

Where is Broad Elms ?[I ought to know , but don't] . Is it near the old Fire Station on Ringinglow Road ?
The only reference to Broad Oaks I've come across ,other than the one mentioned, was that there used to be a street called Broad Oaks , ran off Staniforth Road , quite near the Attercliffe end.

Broad Elms Lane starts at Whirlow Hall and runs towards Sheffield (parallel with Eccy Road South) into Haugh Lane at Bents Road

Greybeard,

You mentioned an 1855 map. Is this online? Can you provide a URL?

Here you go....

http://www.old-maps.co.uk/

Select search by place and type 'Ecclesall' into the box. When the map comes up use the 'Enlarged View' button at the bottom of the page and a new window pops up with the big map. The server for this site is often down but it usually comes up again within 24 hours.

Is that Maud Maxfield - school for the deaf - what you had in mind?
