View Full Version : Rugby: Who will win the Six nations 2005?
Who will win the six nations this year?
England start as favourites.
I believe they have to play Wales at Cardiff which may be tough this year.
I'm siding towards Ireland this year.
Over the last few years they have made great leaps in their gameplay and honestly think they could do it this time.
They've got a great captain and a squad of class players. The only possible weak link is tiny little Peter Stringer, who I think should be replaced.
Scotland and Italy will battle for last position. The last time I had a good lok at the French squad there was a few injuries in there, but don't know too much about who will be playing for France at the moment.
Wales will likely blow it.
Yodameister 03-02-2005, 12:07 Its really between Ireland, England and France and I really think that they will each beat the other 3 teams and it will come down to the results between them.
I'm not sure where the matches are but I wouldn't bet against the Irish at Landsdowne Road, (I guess they'll play one of England and France away and one at home)
If asked to choose I would go for Ireland I think.
I think England this year, but France would be my second guess. It would be nice if Wales could win it... poor little Wales.

...aren't they called Dolphins ?
I've gone with England.
Although, as already mentioned Ireland have a real chance if they can avoid injuries.
France are a little too inconsistent for my liking.
I've gone with Ireland aswell.
Just watched England's crap, gutless and untalented effort against Wales.
We lost to Wales for Christ's sake!!!!!!!!!
I'd rather have my nuts put through a mangle than see Wales win!!
If Ireland can dominate the line outs as expected then yes they have one hell of a chance.

lol, I thought the match in Cardiff would be a tough one this year, but I still expected England to scrape through.
I blame England's defeat mainly on Tom Shanklin's blatant smothering of the ball. There was too many instances where England were penalised for not recycling the ball quickly enough, and it was Wales' fault!
Still, that's no excuse. England should have pounded Wales back into the dirt, but they didn't/
Yodameister 08-02-2005, 07:54 Scotland really should have beaten France, two shocking decisions.
I really could not see why that Scottish player was sin binned - that was by far the worst decision, you can understand the disallowed try when the guys foot was inches away from the line - we all know that a dog and a white stick are the only qualifications required for being a touch judge....
Anyway, I'd still say Ireland look a good bet, depends quite a lot on the injuries to the two centres though.
Was seriously impressed with the improvement Italy have made, you can say Ireland played poorly, but that was a lot due to the pressure that the Italian forwards put them under - if Italy still had Dominguez playing for them they could well have won.
I think England will pick up their game as time goes on, but I fancy Wales to do well this time.
I think the most important think for England is to get the young team right for the next World Cup.
6 missed pens' and a missed dropkick and a loss to France! Ireland away next, don't fancy their chances there.
Quote of the decade from SKY Sports News.....
"England coach Andy Robinson probably feels like kicking himself."
He'd have to,....None of his kickers could do it for him,....they'd bloody miss!!!!!!
What the 'f' happened?
Bring back Wilkinson. Bring back any bugger who can kick straight(ish)!:(
Well it`s a team game but it was obvious who caused the problem.
More practise on the kicking is needed I think if they are to at least win one game.
I still say Wales are very strong though.
evildrneil 14-02-2005, 10:00 Given England's APPALLING performance agains France (see them snatch defeat from the very jaws of victory!) I would say well neither of them!!!
Charlie Hodgson fully earning his nickname of "Not Johnny" in the game against France, because that's what he is.
Wasn't he the player who's son told him during the World Cup that he wanted to grow up and be just like Johnny Wilkinson? If he was, that's gotta sting...
Still confident about Ireland, especially now that Driscoll and O'Gara are back. Based on the way they are playing at the moment, I would also pick Wales over France.
Something to look out for this weekend!
Forward passes by Wales...not noticed by ref or touch judges!!!!
Must have been dozens in last two matches.:suspect:
Or am I just being paranoid???:(
Looks like O'Gara won't be playing this weekend, but they do have Driscoll back. Even without him they were playing great and I have a sinking feeling that England are going to get stuffed.
This is terrible.
Yodameister 25-02-2005, 13:13 I think in the medium to long term that losing to Wales and France was good because its the kick up the backside they needed.
They could easily have won both by a few points, but it still would not mean that they had played well. Ireland are the best team I've seen so far by a long way, but I think England will give them a good match, but I still think Irealnd will win.
Moonraker 25-02-2005, 19:10 A little boy was in court as part of a custody case.
The judge says that he could see no good reason why he should grant custody to either parent, so he was going to allow the boy to decide.
He asked the boy, "Do you want to live with your mother",?
The boy answered "No she beats me".
The judge then asked, "Do you want to live with your father".?
"No the boy shouted. He beats me more than her".
"Well" said the judge, "Where do you want to live."?
The boy looked at the judge and with a pleading tone to his voice he said, " I want to live with the English rugby team."
"Why"?, said the judge.
The boy answered, "They can't beat anyone."
(yes i'm Welsh).
Moonraker.
That was good, I am keeping fingers crossed for tomorrow.
If the kick up the bum works they should win but I have an odd feeling about this six nations.
Will be watching though as always.
Moonraker 26-02-2005, 17:31 Wales 3 from 3. YES.
In all honesty, as a Welshman I hope England win tomorrow.
That way we will be the only team with 100%.
I am glad Wales won, I hope they keep their 100% they have earnt it with a lot of hard work.
Lets hope England have a good day today.
Moonraker 27-02-2005, 08:21 Hi Rosie, i'll be watching the game today with my fingers crossed.
Have you any Welsh connections.?
England...crap again!!
The embarrassing part is that very soon they'll be as bad as the 'other' England team. God forbid!!!:gag:
Moonraker 27-02-2005, 17:08 Wales 3 from 3.
Ireland 3 from 3.
Look out for all hell to break out in Cardiff in 3 weeks when Ireland visit.
England only have pride to play for now. It's a good job it's now 6 nations or they might run the risk of finishing bottom.
One would hope England could at least muster a victory over Scotland and Italy...
Lets hope England win Italy today and don`t have to recieve the wooden spoon.
I hope Wales keep the clean sheet tomorrow, they deserve to win with the passion and hard work they have shown.
Moonraker 13-03-2005, 06:49 Well England have their first win. is this the start to the revival.?
Ireland lost their chance of the "Grand slam".
What's the betting on Wales against Scotland and going on to the "Grand slam".?
Cymru am byth.
How many games have Italy actually won in the Six nations since they have been in it?
BruciesBabe 19-03-2005, 16:29 C'mom my boys!!!!
YYYIIIPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moonraker 19-03-2005, 16:30 Wales are Grand Slam Champions.
Cymru Am Byth.!!!!
HealthyLives 22-03-2005, 21:37 As John Inverdale so succinctly suggested, perhaps it would be a good idea if Dick Best sold his holiday cottage in Pembroke.
15 men in red have made a small nation very proud (and helped boost the profits of many a brewer).
