View Full Version : Varsity and Cavendish (on West St) slimsid2000 22-11-2007, 15:26 What are people's opinions of these two venues please? nick2 22-11-2007, 15:55 Both are ok when they are not full of p***ed-up students. Cavendish is slightly better IMO Stormy 22-11-2007, 15:58 Both are ok I guess, bit studenty for me tho. There are better places on West st, Lava lounge is good and Bia Hoi is worth a go, especially on fri/sat nights. Although Ive heard Lava cant play live (DJ) music no more because of their licence which might hurt it as it was a good pre-club bar. Flightlevel 22-11-2007, 16:15 Both are absolutely dire. mrsmills 22-11-2007, 16:23 Even when I was a student here, after the first weeks they had lost the limited appeal they had, horrible places IMO, made no better by the fact that since the smoking ban they do actually have a strong smell of vomit! We were dragged in recently by some old friends from Uni...that was a night to forget, it made m think that if you could put all the things I don't like in one...this would be it, not to mention a rather unpleasant incident with a rather amourous gentleman at the bar, which was so brazen it was difficult to be offended by it. The requisite deep fried hangover breakfast/lunch at The Cavendish is not to be sniffed at! casslou 23-11-2007, 11:25 too many students and varsity is way too overcrowded on fri/sat nights, getting served in there is a nightmare... SpiderPete 23-11-2007, 11:27 too many students and varsity is way too overcrowded on fri/sat nights, getting served in there is a nightmare... Getting served in any pub on Fri/Sat on West Street is a nightmare. I prefer Varisty more, only for the beer garden at the back. Meaks 23-11-2007, 11:48 Both are absolutely dire. FACT. :) scottf 23-11-2007, 11:52 they serve a purpose for west street, the food isn't too bad for the prices and when the footie is on you don't stand there for that long to get served. boutiquechoc 23-11-2007, 12:08 Imo they are just awful, cheap & nasty: I would never been seen dead up there in West Street EWWWWWWW .......(being careful what I say as everyone seems to jump on my opinion of places nowadays) Claret 23-11-2007, 12:14 Cavendish is better now its been refurbished. I never used to drink in there before - just seemed really really dirty. Now it's quite nice and they've got loads more lagers on tap now. Still not one of my top places to go but it's ok straight after work before all the idiots pile in. As for varsity it just is not good. Chris BIO 23-11-2007, 12:32 I'm curious as to why you ask Slim? Got yourself a young student hottie? :suspect: the-lioness 23-11-2007, 12:35 cavendish can be ok- I love their raspberry bliss cocktails but its kind of part of our standard west st crawls so.... Varsity is a dive- never go! slimsid2000 23-11-2007, 14:18 Cavendish is better now its been refurbished. I never used to drink in there before - just seemed really really dirty. Meaks 23-11-2007, 14:47 Noun 1. idiot - a person of subnormal intelligence cretin, half-wit, imbecile, moron Idiot + Booze = Loud, drunken ****. OwlsChick 23-11-2007, 14:48 Varcitys ok. i tend to start off in there. do's get really really busy though and getting served can be a long wait but it do's ease off toward 10 o'clock. Only been in cavendish a couple of times, again i think its ok. Fot me though its Vodka Rev All The Way :D fabulous_girl 23-11-2007, 15:44 i like the cavendish as it reminds me of my uni pub,and does vodka and fanta lemon! only been in varsity once but i was ill and had to leave (not through alcohol misuse!) slimsid2000 08-04-2009, 13:30 Following on from another thread how safe are these two venues in particular? WYEXILE 08-04-2009, 14:14 Following on from another thread how safe are these two venues in particular? They are both extremely dangerous. I heard there was an outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Casvendish last month :gag: scottf 08-04-2009, 14:29 They are both extremely dangerous. I heard there was an outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Casvendish last month :gag: :hihi: :hihi: Shelectric 08-04-2009, 14:53 I will not be going back to the Cavendish after being constantly groped last time I went in (the last friday before Christmas) MDK.SIE 08-04-2009, 14:59 think your safe as long as you have a chav pass ? slimsid2000 08-04-2009, 15:05 I would not have thought there were that many chavs in these places. Varsity in particular seems to be quite student oriented. neeeeeeeeeek 08-04-2009, 15:05 Following on from another thread how safe are these two venues in particular? So did you ever go in? You did start this thread in 2007. Let me guess.... slimsid2000 08-04-2009, 15:06 So did you ever go in? You did start this thread in 2007. Let me guess.... yes been to both places several times actually. I have never witnessed any trouble but would like other opinions as people have said negative things about them on other threads. blackspot 09-04-2009, 16:44 Both are ok when they are not full of p***ed-up students. Cavendish is slightly better IMO why blame students it they can be full of idiots on friday nights when while most students come out in midweek |
