View Full Version : 'Survivors' to be re-made JoeP 22-11-2007, 14:19 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7107597.stm I remember this the first time around. Be interesting to see how it goes! NEKRO138 22-11-2007, 14:28 These things never work. The people who never heard of it aren't bothered and the ones who loved the original won't stand for it. alchresearch 22-11-2007, 14:36 "28 Days Later" did pretty well, I can't see this struggling too much, especially for those who haven't seen the original or read any of the many books of this genre. StarSparkle 22-11-2007, 14:39 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7107597.stm I remember this the first time around. Be interesting to see how it goes! I think they should just re-show the original. I'm sure that was about as accurate and realistic a picture of post-apocalyptic Britain as we are likely to get. Strong stuff for the time - I remember it had a huge effect on the way I looked at the world StarSparkle NEKRO138 22-11-2007, 15:31 You don't get any better than Threads for post-apocolyptic drama. Especially if you are familiar with Sheffield. That film is unbelievable. WallBuilder 24-11-2008, 11:16 Well did anyone watch the new drama on Sunday night? I did and having missed this thread hadn't realised it was a remake as such which explains why the names of some of the characters seemed to ring old bells with me. I remember the series first time round as well and am quite glad they're not reshowing it as I seem to remember the acting wasn't that good and so would no doubt look terrible by todays standards. I'm going to be watching it now seeing how many times I can recognise a scene from the original. alchresearch 24-11-2008, 11:39 I didn't think it was that great. There are too many modern remakes of this genre so it lost it's originality, especially when a BBC production has to compete with big budget movies. Annoni_mouse 24-11-2008, 12:11 It was ok, I 'spose - for a Sunday evening show. I thought some of the acting was pretty ropey in places, and the least said about the special effect (singular) the better. I also have to admit I 'LOL'd at he scene where the two asian lads started playing football on the motorway - it was just so forced and awkward. So in conclusion - a bit poo. However, now I've started watching, I know I'll have to watch Tuesday's episode:( *Turbo* 24-11-2008, 12:25 damn forgot about it!! any idea if its repeated? Rich 24-11-2008, 12:28 Probably never. But if it was on BBC, chances are it'll be on the IPlayer service, check the BBC website. Funky_Gibbon 24-11-2008, 12:48 I didn't think it was that great. I just couldn't take it seriously at all simple because it had that women in it who was in Bonekickers and every time she was on the screen I just kept hearing her say "Now we dig!", especially when they asked her "What do we do now?" right at the end. cgksheff 24-11-2008, 13:07 damn forgot about it!! any idea if its repeated? Friday night at 1:25 am. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ftbxh RiffRaff 24-11-2008, 14:17 Yup, I remember it from the first time round too...'74? Started off OK, but quickly tailed off from what I recall. Had an intensely annoying Welsh actor in it as well - I can picture him now, him and his buck teeth, but can't put a name to him - who was usually an extra in comedy TV jobs, and therefore seemed out of place. For some reason, I also remember a very young Peter Bowles appearing as a helicopter pilot..... As soon as I noticed the new series had that Scottish woman (ex-Bonekickers) in it, my interest waned somewhat......... StarSparkle 24-11-2008, 16:08 I'm not going to be watching this - my memories of the original version are too strong. I remember the original version was a very hard-hitting affair, that was really quite tough tv for the time - in fact, it was really quite shocking in its own way, quite salutory and sobering. It brought it home to people with a vengeance that there was no point in trying to survive a nuclear attack - as life for any survivors would be so nasty and brutish that no-one in their right mind would want to be a survivor. I think it had quite a large 'political with a small p' impact on people at the time - I'm not sure what it would take for something today to have a similar effect StarSparkle sierraman 24-11-2008, 16:14 I'm amazed that Barry Hines 'Threads' hasn't been shown on TV! alchresearch 24-11-2008, 16:36 I think some of the minority satellite channels (SciFi) have shown it over the past year or two. I taped "The Day After" off there. mikeG 24-11-2008, 17:47 I agree with StarSparkle. I'd be happy to watch a re-run of the original series. I don't think The Saint was as good when Roger Moore was replaced. Don't think the Bond movies were as good when Sean Connery made way for an older man. I digress but shows don't always 'work' well second time around with a new cast. I think there was an actor called McCulloch in the original. Salome 24-11-2008, 19:19 I loved it!! I was hooked right through and I loved the original series too. Can't wait for the next episode on Tuesday!! DaFoot 25-11-2008, 08:32 Watched the 1st episode on bbc iPlayer last night... 2 things kept coming to mind... "they're dead Dave, everybody's dead" and found myself preparing myself for a zombie to appear behind someone! It was ok. Not brilliant, but I will probably be watching the next couple of episodes at least before I decide if I will carry on with it. StarSparkle 25-11-2008, 11:54 Watched the 1st episode on bbc iPlayer last night... 2 things kept coming to mind... "they're dead Dave, everybody's dead" and found myself preparing myself for a zombie to appear behind someone! It was ok. Not brilliant, but I will probably be watching the next couple of episodes at least before I decide if I will carry on with it. I guess "Shaun of the Dead" has potentially ruined some of these apocalyptic scenarios for good now! :P StarSparkle Jabberwocky 25-11-2008, 11:55 God I thought the P was back then! Get my bloody hopes up just to dash them muttermumblemutter.... Funky_Gibbon 25-11-2008, 13:43 Watched the 1st episode on bbc iPlayer last night... 2 things kept coming to mind... "they're dead Dave, everybody's dead" and found myself preparing myself for a zombie to appear behind someone! If I'd noticed that particular line I'd have been thinking of Red Dwarf :D:hihi: HOLLY: They're dead, Dave. LISTER: Who is? HOLLY: Everybody, Dave. LISTER: What, Captain Hollister? HOLLY: Everybody's dead, Dave. LISTER: What, Todhunter? HOLLY: Everybody's dead, Dave. LISTER: What, Selby? HOLLY: They're all dead. Everybody's dead, Dave. LISTER: Petersen isn't, is he? HOLLY: Everybody is *dead*, Dave. LISTER: Not Chen? HOLLY: Gordon Bennett! Yes! Chen, everybody. Everybody's dead, Dave. LISTER: Rimmer? HOLLY: He's dead, Dave. Everybody's dead. Everybody is dead, Dave! LISTER: Wait. Are you trying to tell me everybody's dead? WallBuilder 26-11-2008, 13:41 I've decided as it doesn't clash with anything more interesting I'll probably continue to watch it although the acting isn't exactly riveting. How come the only female survivors so far are all reasonably attractive by the way? DaFoot 26-11-2008, 13:46 If I'd noticed that particular line I'd have been thinking of Red Dwarf :D:hihi: That particular line wasn't in there...just in my head (a la the Dwarf) when there were scenes of single person wondering through corpses. fluffystuff 26-11-2008, 14:09 As soon as I noticed the new series had that Scottish woman (ex-Bonekickers) in it, my interest waned somewhat......... Julie Graham is her name. I think she is a pretty good actress and has been in some credible dramas in the past. However, Bonekickers was just plain awful.:gag: I am enjoying the program so far, but taking everything with a large pinch if salt. I am too young to remember the original so I am curious as to how it will end. Its better than watching those morons in the jungle anyway |
