... some mates over the weekend and got into discussion about just how safe the Fraser estate is (between Archer Rd and Woodeats).
What's your opinion... is my reckoning right that it was originally a council estate and has since had most owners buy their own houses?

Wasn't very safe for the Postman who was murdered down there a few years ago.

I walk my dogs down Fraser Road and back up Hutcliffe Wood to Woodseats. Never seen or heard of any trouble there. Some houses went a bit OTT on the Xmas lights on there last year tho! worth slowing the car done for some of 'em!!:hihi:

I live very close to this area. And have regularly walked through it, in during the past decade, and would say that it is a generally quiet and friendly area. Sure there are a few spots where kids are playing, but I have never seen them causing trouble at all, they have a massive area of grass behind to play football etc.

I live on hutcliffe wood road and I've never seen any trouble in 6 months or so living here.
Some kids knocking about, but not in big gangs at night or anything and its pretty quiet bar the traffic.

I'm moving soon but have enjoyed it on the whole.

The impression is that the estate is now mostly under private ownership, the waiting lists for council properties is long extremely long. It's not really a hang out for teenagers as there isn't anything exciting for them and so it's quiet. The big field at the side is Barbers field and in the summer time that can have a lot of kids on it of all ages, the younger ones playing football and the older one'ssat drinking and smoking. As fast as one group grows up there seems to be another set all ready to take their place. The Sheaf pub at the bottom of the estate had a bad reputation about twenty years ago from which it has never recovered and has changed hands several times with people trying to make it pay.
The worst thing has got to be the main road Fraser road , used as a rat run far too much and in the winter can become a skating rink with the ice, absolutely terrifying if you go down hill in your car and touch the brakes and the car just slides.

Thanks for all your feedback... I'll make sure the snow chains are in the boot when using this hill in the snow!!

Lived on Fraser Road for last 5 years. Know several families off the 'Estate'. Kids love it. Have not experienced any trouble / nuisance whatsoever in that time. Think the reputation of the Estate relates to about 10 years ago. Which is nice if you are able to pick up a house cheaply.

also lived at fraser for 12 years. some of the nicest people I`ve ever met are my neighbours and friends. very convenient for tesco and other main supermarkets, also the esporta gym. the main complaints i hear are about litter and the speed humps and closed roads which are cutting us off from the rest of the city. the humps on fraser are absolutuely lethal.

i`ve lived on the hill at Fraser rd since July. In that time the only trouble i`ve seen...in all of Sheffield, in fact, was a couple of nippers laying into each other in the Big Tree garden last summer. Not bad for nearly a year, id see much more bother in that space of time in my home town in Wiltshire.
