I have attended the Northern General Hospital today and was most impressed by the standard of treatment I received, all the staff I had to deal with were courteous, helpfull, pleasant, Kind, professional and although the specialist Mr. Blundell was over one hour late with his appointments, the waiting was kept right down to a minimum.

What a wonderfull health service we have in this lovely city of ours, everywhere I went, it was spotless, bright, cheerfull, and efficiently organised and run. We are certainly getting our moneys worth in Sheffield.

This is not the first time I have had first class care, because in 1992 I had a triple operation in the Hallamshire Hospital and I was treat just like royalty, with a private room, the care was second to none and I was fit and well again in a very short time.

After all the horror stories in the national press, mistakes, wrong limbs taken off, people dying unneccessary, I think that we are very fortunate to have such good care and excellent dedicated staff.

I visit the Childrens hospital regular Hal and the same care is taken there.
Sheffield hospitals are the best.
Just in case a humour's comment appears, i,m not the oldest patient there, i take my son.

Why? NHS not good enough for you?

Well, having used both, I can say which I prefer, lets put it that way. NHS is OK for first point of contact but beyond that I'd prefer not to wait months and months for simple procedures, not to mention the better atmosphere and facilities in a private hospital.

OK well next time you come in for an emergency x-ray (or a none-emergency x-ray cos youve lost your job/cant afford private) ill just refuse. Well if im not good enough for you then it will serve you right!

Nah, nowt wrong with using private hospital if you can afford it, but its wrong using the NHS to work out the diagnostic problems with X-Rays and do all the spade work then go off to a private clinic for the op.
Now thats not right.

2 years ago my dad went in the Northern General after a stroke. The staff were always rushed off their feet amd too busy to pay attention. My Dad went a whole day once without getting bathed, dressed, fed or his teeth brushed. My mum turned up at 6pm after work to visit and ended up helping him wash himself, dress and even changed his sheets. She was in tears. He wasn't able to say anything or be bothered to tell anybody. It's a crime. Dad said later that there were men in his ward that were worse off then him and they needed more care and attention than he did. He never complained, but the nursing care he recieved was short of pathetic. Not that that was their fault. Those nurses were run off their feet and were kept busy every minute. Mum complained, so he was moved to a special care facility in the Hallamshire.
I think the nurses are excellent at their job and certainly dedicated as Halevan observed; however, there are serious flaws in the NHS:- lack of staff, crowded wards etc, etc.... I wouldn't fault anyone for going private. Life is precious. If money improves the care you receive, then hell, why not? I'm sorry if not everyone can afford it and my Dad learnt from his 3 months experience in hospital. He's doing good and never says anything bad about the NHS. But it could be better. He was never ever treated like royalty. Maybe he should have complained more!

Spooky a evil looking Kittykat giving you an Xray:D :D :D

No seriously service is good at NHS hospitals, but there will always be a place for private for those that can afford it.

Why have potted meat when you can have pate.

Why have a Micra when you can have a Merc.

Why go in a caravan when you can go on a cruise.

No offence to any potted meat lovers, caravan owners or Micra drivers

I used to know a Radiographer (at least, she was studying to be one at the time). I think she spent some placement time at Northern General.

To be fair, when I had an operation on my wrist at NG a few years ago, I was treated really well. Very friendly staff - and being absolutely sh** scared of hospitals, that was very welcome!
