traffic traffic traffic, some nice shops near northern gen hosp - clothes and food shops. good range of training facilities - the source. tram close by, and train. bit hilly! can be rough at night with joyriders

If you tell us what your requirements are, we can point you in the right direction. There are loads of threads in the 'moving to sheffield' section that should give you some good info too.

I didn't think there was any residential property at/near meadowhall  loads of retail/offices/steel works/garages.

If you mean Wicobank or Tinsley, use search. They've been covered on here recently.

Low edges is a place to be avoided. I know a few people who live there, and one mate of mine was in his flat 18 months ago when a guy from downstairs smashed his door in and tried to kill him. He now can't work. A son of a friend of mine winessed a murder about 2 years ago, on his way home from school in the broad daylight.

It is in the furthest south west tip of sheffield, and is high and wind battered. And a large council type estate of low rise flats, estate pubs and houses covered in grey rendering. There are regular busses into town though.

Alright [pedantic t020] the SSW tip, almost last bit before Dronfield

No it bloody isn't!! That would be Ringinglow (about as different to Low Edges as is possible).

I've very kindly found a postcode in Low Edges so you can see its location circle on the map (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=435000&Y=380000&width=500&height=300&gride=434686&gridn=380748&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=pc&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=S87LD&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=0&scale=50000&out.x=5&out.y=11). It's the south tip of Sheffield.

This map (http://www.blundells.co.uk/search.asp) gives you an even better idea.

Not really, because S8 covers a large area whereas my map is circled with a specific postcode in Low Edges. :D To put mine into context more clearly, there are also zoom facilities. Also, the Blundells map doesn't have defined city boundaries, so with no knowledge of Sheffield, Dronfield, Chesterfield, etc, would be assumed to be IN Sheffield, which isn't the case and undermines the fact that Low Edges is at the south tip.

Not sure what there is now but when I was looking to rent there were a few single/two bedroom houses around Herdings for about 350 a month. It isnt the nicest area but in a year I never saw any trouble, plus its at the end of the tram line and only 20 mins in to town. A bit further out is Halfway which again is on the tram and about half an hour in to town.
Herdings -

I'm sorry but i'm going to stick my nose in here, I've lived both on and near Lowedges ever since i moved to Sheffield (3 years ago!) and i've never had much trouble on here (other than one night the other week which got sorted out, just some kids hanging around near my flat smoking weed which my neighbour kindly sorted out without any trouble, the kids involved were very apologetic!) Yes there was a murder in broad-daylight a couple of years ago but the murderer was from the Batemoor estate and the victim, although was a drug user and from Lowedges, wasn't very well known. Lowedges does have a 'teenage gang' problem which can be intimidating but they don't cause a great deal of trouble, just shout a bit and smoke weed. One end of Lowedges is fine, the other does look a bit rougher but again, thats fine too. Lowedges does get a fair few joyriders i must admit but again, thats late at night and there is apparently a problem with smack on the estate but so long as you keep yourself to yourself your fine, its not a bad place, can think of better but we can't all afford to live on better estates, would personally prefer to live here than on Herdings!!

All in all it sounds absolutely lovely, tinkabel....

A bit of smack, joy riding and daylight murdering never harmed anyone.

I'll recommend Woodhouse too. Easy access to town (loads of buses and a train station with regular service), lots of open space, handy for Crystal Peaks, easy motorway access, 20 mins to Meadowhall (can take train direct if you like). Choice of primary schools, nature reserve....

Erm, what else does a mum and todler require? :)

Health centre and dentist, pubs, takeaways, restaurants, large co-op, more churches than you can shake a stick at, Christmas markets, martial arts dojo and a gym, far too many tanning 'salons' (at least 3) and the best bacon butties ever at Woodhouse Pantry, Beighton Rd

Woodhouse (or Wuduss as some locals call it) its a nice enought place, Im not sure that 300/mont will get you a nice terrace though, I would say look more around 450.

Oh your hilarious! I was just saying that it's not as bad as everyone makes out! There's been one daylight murder which was surrounding drugs, not just something random and that was almost 3 years ago! There's smack and joyriders everywhere!
