Hi

I'm trying to find a puppy. I'm not after a pedigree, as long as the dog doesn't grow too big. Small to medium sized dogs.

It will be coming to a loving home, with me, my partner and my cat.

Price is not a problem, I just want to get it as a suprise for my partner, and as he's the only one that can drive, I'm limited on where I can go, especially now there's no RSPCA in town.

If anyone knows of any dogs that have just had a litter, can you please advise the owner I am looking. I am a very responsible pet owner, my cat is in clean health, having yearly vet appointments, regular worming and fleaing, and he is also neutered!

Anyone with any advise please message me back

thanks

Hi Icklespud,

I'm afraid I can't help as to where to find one, but thought I'd just give a little snicket of advice.
It sounds like you've thought it through, but please, please don't get the pup as a surprise. You both need to make the decision to get a dog, and which dog at that. We've seen dogs rehomed on here because people get them as surprise presents and it's always best to ensure you've both gone through the process together.

Best of luck - I hope you find the right pup for your family.

Thanks Lotti for the advice - We have talked it through, and we were gonna get one after xmas - so we do both want one, just thought it would be a nice suprise for him to get it just before - but thanks for posting the advise - I would never get a dog just on a wim, and nor should anyone else!

He looks adorable - just a bit concerned as the ad states he really likes the company of the older dogs, and I only have a cat to keep him company - and he's not in the house much as it is, so on the brief occassions he'd be left for a short time, I'm not sure how well he'd cope on his own?

At such a young age, I don't think he'd be a problem being left Icklespud. They're easily adaptable at that age and if you leave him with something to do while you're out and you're only out for brief periods, he wouldn't be a problem.

If he's got collie in him, he'd benefit from not being left too long, but I'm sure he'd be able to be left to some degree :)

I'd have him if it wasn't for the fact I live with my mum (who has said NO MORE DOGS) and Eddy who would try to eat him

There are some lovely jack russell crosses at rotherham dog rescue.

Hmmm I think they have said he has collie in him because of the markings, but they can be greyhound markings too....he looks very very greyhound/lurcher-ish to me, he will make a really lovely dog if brought up right.
It really won't matter if there is no other dog, he will also enjoy being the only one so long as he is not left alone for too long :)

Yes, Moonbird, I know a greyhound/lurcher x (dont' know what lurcher type is in him) who looks just like him! He's an absolutely fantastic dog :D

Yes my lurcher has similar markings too but he is white, grey and covered in spots :hihi: (rather than black and white) and he is a brilliant dog, I can never understand why greyhounds and lurchers are not more popular, they are lovely

Honestly? Most people I speak to and recomend greyhounds/lurchers for their lifestyle come out with 'but they look so skinny!'

Me too Durham is my second one now, and to although he is a big dog he is less than half of the trouble of either of the 2 small ones, and he is only half their ages too
If I'm honest I just can't imagine life without a lurcher, they are so easy and faithful, but not only that they seem to have this genuine need to please and fit in, its more like a partnership... do I sound mad? :hihi:

Moonbird - I think my mum would kick herself if she read that... I'd always wanted a dally but suggested a lurcher when we were looking for a dog as I thought they'd be more suited to our lifestyle (especially with my disability) but she said no! Knowing the trouble we've had with T, I bet she wishes she'd said yes to the lurcher!

That said, I couldn't live life with an easy dog - it wouldn't get what it really needed, Eddy's so easy going - he would definitely miss out on walks if it wasn't for Takara driving me up the pole to go out!

A lurcher fan here also particularly the collie X type as my boy Albert is although more collie and something else rather than typical lurcher. They really are wonderful dogs so loving and laid back but full of fun. Would have him over a little terrorist any day.

Icklespud,

Just thinking, you may find that most organisations when rehoming a dog, will want to see the whole family... good luck - I wish you all the best, but just thought you ought to be prepared for it.

Yeah seeing the whole family is not a problem - there is only me, my partner and my cat, and my partner works from home part-time, so thought this would be the perfect time to get a puppy as we have plenty of time on our hands.......and u may be please to know I will be going to have a look at the Jack Russell cross breeds in Rotherham rescue centre at the end of the week!
