I was going to take my son down, but the weather has put me off. Showers I could live with, but being contantly damp isn't my idea of fun..

Is it really the weather or the display itself thats put you off? :hihi:

I can't think of anything better than watching Shayne Ward messing with electricity whilst there's lots of water around.

I took my four year old daughter in earlier, mostly to see the reindeer.
She's been obsessed by deers since she was about 18 months old and she was over the moon to see real reindeer.
They were gorgeous too.

Had to laugh at all the teenage girls queuing up to watch the X factor bloke. They started queuing at about 1pm.
Bet their make up and hair styles are ruined now.:hihi:

Neither - cos I decided that a bit of cold shouldn't put off a hardened northern and went into town after all..

Was more of a fair ground feel then I though it would be (plenty of rides for the kids), however it wasn't really a night to stand around and take in the atmosphere. A few directed attractions (such as the animals) and a ride in bob the builder truck was all it took and we left well in advance of the lights being turned on (which I thought would match the dissappointing meadowhall effort I sadly witnessed).

Anyway, had the rain held off then I think it would have been a lot better - and if the same show is ran next year I would be happy to return. I might even be tempted to hang around for the lights...

I took my kids into town to see the lights being switched on. Alright it was peeing down but we wrapped up well in hoods and coats and had the advantage that town wasnt absolutely rammed. It was quite comfortable being able to walk around without being jammed in a moving crowd. Didnt manage to see the teletubbies or cbeebies characters which were advertised but I dont know if that was because we arrived too late or if they were rained off. Was quite suprised to find that my kids like hot chestnuts though - I only bought them to keep their hands warm and they scoffed the lot :D

Bobby Knutt and Hayley Tamaddon (sp?) from Cinderalla, Two people off Strictly Come Dancing, No Angels (I think thats what they were called anyway). Saw the teletubbies - well two of them when I walked off the simulator ride, Fireman Sam and Postman Pat who came out of the townhall and went straight back in again. It was quite good though - better than I expected and the huskies were really sweet.

This was the order of the day (I missed all the cbeebies stuff too) - I wish I'd looked at it before I went - I could have planned it slightly better...

I went to see my cousin play volleyball at ponds forge today, and I've never seen so many people in the city on a Sunday! Suppose christmas shopping is in full swing now. In november. :S

Happened to be in town anyway, but left before the switch on. I have to say it felt like more of an effort had been made this year in terms of the "feel" of it

Went in to have lunch and watch the lights being switched on. Shayne is easy on the eye and he did ever such a good job at miming. A nice way to earn £10k or whatever you get paid for that.
The Angel girl singers though were really good and I enjoyed Holy Night. :)

Me and my sister took her little one to see Barney Owl in Orchard Square and then the cbeebies. Orchard Square lights were pap; 2 wreaths, and a Santa display that refused to come on when they pushed the button. Oh, and there were 2 Wednesday players there as well so had to fight our way past the fawning girls to get a pic of the little one with Barney. And don't get me started on the pushy bloody parents. Then went down t'Moor to see cbeebies, thinking (logically) that it would on/around the bandstand. Oh no, it was all happening outside Sainsbugs and all we could see were the tops of the Teletubbies' costumes. They did the countdown, switched the lights on and there they were gone. It was that quick. No Postman Pat as far as we could see. Our little one was upset because he couldn't see anything as they were all on pavement level, same as us, not on a stage or anything which seemed a bit daft but there you go. Fortunately the photos of him with Barney and Santa managed to console him.

We just passed thru Barkers Pool so avoided seeing the rest.

Add the weather into it all and tbh it was a bit of a wasted trip and v disappointing.

Do they have any trams illuminated like they do in Blackpool? That'd be really nice.

I'd even go on one if it was all lit up. :)

For the 4th largest city in England (or whatever we're supposed to be) the Christmas lights are poor at best.
