Do you think it was right for McClaren to bring David Beckham off in the middle of last nights game?

David Beckham himself, look annoyed.

Is Beckham past it? do you think he needs to play full games to get his fitness back? or do you think (as mentioned earlier) his best days are behind him?

When I moved to my new team, the manager said that as it was my first game, he was gonna pull be off at half time. I said 'thats nice, all we got at my last club was orange juice'.

I think it was wrong to play him in the first place. He's contracted to a mickey-mouse club and won't play top class football ever again, most likely; where's the sense in sticking him in an international? Would you pick someone who used to be great but now plays for Trowbridge?

I think in the last few performances (even last night) Beckham has played for England, he has been on good form and looked dangerous with his crossing.

He deserves his place in my opinion, he is always a threat. Whether he plays for a mickey mouse club is irrelevant if he puts in good performances for England, which he has.

Is his lack of fitness, due to his age?

I personally think he was at his best 2001/2002

He should start especially if Crouch is upfront as he's always going to provide chances for him. But at times such as now when he isn't match fit and the MLS has closed down he can come off after 60 mins then Young, Wright-Phillips or Lennon can come on and make an impact.

I am not sure the OP has been keeping up with David Beckhams career!

He has only just come back from injury - he has hardly played any games in the last few weeks.
It was ALWAYS the case that he would only play for an hour vs Austria, as a stepping stone in his fitness, before the Croatia game on Weds.

i personally think he is the bbest english player around,,he is the only player who plays his heart and soul for the team,,unlike other over-rated players..

Should Beckham be awarded a 100th cap?

Nobody deserves a cap, unless they're good enough to be picked on merit. Given that the WC finals are two years away and Beckham almost certainly won't be around by then .. he isn't.

Still, to put paid to any public clamour over the issue, I have no problem with him being picked, and made captain, for the next friendly. Then he can retire on 100 caps and everyone'll be happy.
