I'm running Windows ME on an older Desktop PC with 1 Ghtz processor and 256 memory. I recently upgrated to a new printer that connects through a USB port. I cannot get it to work. it will start to print, but then it will stop after about 10%. and my USB ports still work with other hardware. I've tried everything. I have new USB cables and even bought a new 5 port USB card. Nothing works. Has anyone out there had a similar experience? The printer is a Lexmark.

Aww, c'mon.

It's not like SheffieldForum to go all speechless on a techy question!

Did you get to the bottom of this?

I'm intrigued :P

Do the normal stuff with hardware manager by uninstalling the previous printer etc. Check the device manager to see if its recognising it ok.
More than likley you just need the correct drivers. Maybe they need to be USB specific.
Try the serial port if you really are having hassles.

Yep, make sure you've got the latest Me drivers from Lexmark, sounds very much like a driver issue.

I had the exact same problem with a Lexmark X1180 on ME...as already mentioned it sounds like a driver problem but could also be down to a power problem...1) Are you 100% sure your printer is ME compat'..? 2) If yes then follow this and all should be ok...

start > right click my computer > properties > device manager > right click usb hub > properties > power management > check the box.....

Hopefully that should get the ball rolling...
