View Full Version : Charity Football (5 a side) - Players Required
Agent Orange 16-11-2007, 11:58 Hiya,
As many of you might know, I am currently a year into a huge 10 year charity campaign to raise loads of money for charity. Anyway, as part of my plans for next year's fundraising, I thought it would be great to hold a charity footy game combined with a meet in order to maximise sponsorship/donations.
I will be raising money in 2008 for Meningitis Trust and Cancer Research UK and depending on how many players I can get, the plan is to organise a series of games on the night between two teams representing both charities. The game itself will take place around spring when the weather is more favourable, but until then I just require your interest and I will organise the rest and keep you all posted.
Remember, this is for charity and will only cost your share in the equal split of the pitch hire. Hopefully, we will attract a crowd and raise lots for both charities.
Anyone and everyone are welcome. Dont worry about your ability of there lack of, it's about taking part and it is going to be a light hearted affair rather than a serious tournament. Remember, this is being done for charity therefore I want to be fun and enjoyable for everyone.
AO.
Agent Orange 27-11-2007, 10:31 People still required. Had a few promising pm's so anyone else wanting to play to help raise money for two worthy charities then please stick your name down or alternatively pm me.
The only cost to you will be the share of the pitch hire which will be minimal between 10 or players.... will be using the game as a tool to raise money from the spectators and also to raise awareness.
As a charity do, how about fancy dress for the teams instead of team strip? :hihi:
ReginaldD 27-11-2007, 11:13 I'd definetly be interested, please stick my name down. As long as it not on a Monday or Thursday I should be fine to attend whenever, always up for a game of football.
Agent Orange 27-11-2007, 20:19 Fantastic!! Hopefully we can generate enough interest to get a game organised. Might make it into some sort of meet too.
We set up a five a side team through the forum see http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=258543
We are now playing regularly in a league.
We got potentially 5-8 people who would probably take part including reginald who posted above.
dinkdankdo10 04-12-2007, 11:14 We would be interested. We play every week but always looking for a few extra games.
We have our works team, we are always looking for a game so I can try to round the troops up. We did play in a charity tournament last summer at Weston Park. If I get no interest, you just can put me on the list.
davedrfc 07-12-2007, 14:36 I would be interested, and I'm sure the rest of our team would be. Seems you could get quite a few teams up for it, maybe it would be worth hiring Goals out on a Sunday afternoon (if this is possible) and having a full blown tournament!
Our team is rubbish but would do our best. Plus our kit is pink (one of our players thought it would be funny, certainly makes the opposition and refs laugh!) so we could represent a Breast Cancer charity?
I also have a few mates with 5 a side teams so keep me posted. If you do decide on making it a tournament and want any help, give me a shout.
Agent Orange 10-12-2007, 15:15 Wow, the interest in this grown considerably. If I can get enough teams together for a mini tournament, then that will be even better. This will deffo go ahead regardless of whether it is a one off match or a tournament and I shall keep you all informed of developments. Please watch this thread for updates, as I will be chucking some dates around early in the new year and hope you all will be able to attend and/or bring along your teams.
Thanks,
Ao.
Preacher Man 11-12-2007, 15:35 i will get a team together for it. thats the least i can do after my failed attempt at this last time around!
sophiec1979 11-12-2007, 15:49 best of luck with this- im going to be steering well clear this time! ;)
x
Agent Orange 11-12-2007, 15:59 Preacher - cool. Dont worry about last time, I know the amount of work you put into it and you weren't to blame, people are just inconsiderate at times :)
Sophie - please come along.. we are looking to get as much support as possible. You are a popular girl and expect you could generate enough interest to get a decent crowd down there on the night. Exception to last time, I will be there and will be taking full responsibility should it all go pear shaped lol.
Preacher Man 11-12-2007, 16:07 how about sophie gets some other girls and does a bit of cheerleading in skimpy outfits ;)
i vote for the lioness, blondie blue, xsunshinex and a couple of others...

You are on to something there... I do believe Bjshooter and co were gonna do it at the last one :suspect: Although, I suspect if we are gonna have cheerleaders then the crowd (male) would be plentiful :D
Depending on the length of the pitch hire, I hope we can get about 8 teams together from either teams coming along on the day and/or from players who are volunteering individually. Furthermore, the game(s) wont be a success without support of a crowd so I would love to get as many people down as possible. If you are wishing to bring a team or come along, please consider asking friends and family to attend too.
The more volunteers we get the better :)
Preacher Man 11-12-2007, 16:23 get all the lads to play topless and the crowd will be full of woman and spidey pete (hi mate).

It is my intention to have this in the spring so the weather should be favourable :) More than welcome to bring wine with you too :D
Agent Orange 15-12-2007, 13:21 Gonna be cheeky and bump this thread a bit. Still in need of players, the more the better at this stage, to show interest in this tournament. Furthermore, this is open to female players and teams also :)
Ill be there as last time, just let me know of date etc.. x
Agent Orange 30-12-2007, 13:02 Cool. Anyone else up for this?

Cool... it should be at the one near the uni. I will be finalising this in the next month so watch this space.
Thanks for your support.. its really appreciated
Agent Orange 10-01-2008, 09:04 Further update... this is going to held around end of March. Still require further interest so we can hold as many games as possible.
AO.
I have a load of football hungry mates (about 20 in total) that are wanting to do this still. We have started to meet up and train on Sundays. You got any more info for it?
Agent Orange 21-01-2008, 15:01 Sounds good.. we can never have too many players for this event. Should hopefully be getting it sorted for end March so details will be posted shortly.
AO.
Weathergirl 28-02-2008, 15:44 Depends where it is! If too far out, sorry!
Agent Orange 04-03-2008, 15:44 Planning to hold this somewhere within the city, possibly at the one up near the uni :)
Preacher Man 04-03-2008, 16:00 give me the phone number of where it will be played and i will get it free/cheaper...
ReginaldD 06-03-2008, 15:24 Just bumping the thread back up to the top. Come on everyone lets make it a good night of fundraising for a worthy cause, also as others have mentioned why not make the night into a forum 'meet' to too. Then maybe the people who normally attend the meets if you don't want to play you could ask you partner. C'mon lets get the numbers up and make it into a good night.
Agent Orange 07-03-2008, 15:39 Thanks, I will be in a position to start finalising stuff very soon. Keep you all posted. Also, get your name down if you havent already :)
I have a 5- Aside team that would be happy to attend if you need, will it be on grass or synthetic?
Nick
Id be up for coming along but individually only im afraid, but let me know the date time and location
Come on hurry up and sort this out!! :)
Agent Orange 25-03-2008, 17:29 Come on hurry up and sort this out!! :)
Right, I will get the ball rolling again towards end of the week. Apologies, things have taken over here and all the charity stuff had to be tossed to one side for a while. This is going to happen so I just like to say just hang in there and all will be sorted.
Ta,
AO.
ill play if its possibile pm me
Agent Orange 27-03-2008, 09:47 Further to my last post, I have requested that a poll is put on here so I can determine how much interest there is in this and to determine roughly how many games we are looking at so we can book the pitch accordingly. If you have already stated your interest, whether it by pm or through this thread, please take the time to vote on the poll when it appears. Much appreciated.
Furthermore, this is looking like a date towards end of April now. Hope this is ok with everyone?
AO.
The_DADDY 27-03-2008, 13:23 Ive pms you back AO.
One question though, do we need to bring a team to take part or is it a case of teams will be formed when we arrive.

Got your pm, ta. The plan is to get everyone who isnt in a team, once they have voted on here, and then make them into a team(s) before the event. I will then post details of who is in what team before the event so you can get to know your fellow team mates, if you so wish, before the day. Furthermore, I will be posting the details of which team will be representing which charity and the fixtures for the day too. All this will be done before the actual day to avoid confusion :)
AO.
Agent Orange 27-03-2008, 14:49 .... I am looking/aiming to get at least 10 teams for this event in order to make the most of day and get maximum publicity for charity. If you can get a team together then please let me know, also, if you know of any mates that might want to play just let me know.
davedrfc 27-03-2008, 15:38 Hi, I am definately interested in playing but I will find out if our whole team is interested or not...Will let you know ASAP!
need the date? am i being blind?
Agent Orange 27-03-2008, 18:53 need the date? am i being blind?
Erm, nope... there are no dates on as yet. Trying to get a pitch at a weekend towards end of April. You will be first to know when we post some provisional dates on here later.
I'd love to play 5 a side for charity but I dont think I could get a team together, maybe two or three if it warms up a bit.
need the date? am i being blind?
No, people first, then dates. Innit
Re pitch for a tournament contact us at Hillsborough Sports Arena 2335310
We have 3x 5 a side pitches, bar, cafe, PA system everything you need to run a tournament really

Who do I ask for?
Agent Orange 29-03-2008, 11:48 Right, from the number of votes we have so far, it looks at this point that we have 4 teams, including the individual players. I have a few friends who want to play so that will make a 5th team. Still need more people to play. Come on, get your name down... it's for charity and should be good fun. The more people we have the better
If, for whatever reason, we cant get many more teams then the tournament will still go ahead, just means that there might be more opportunity to play more games :)
Agent Orange 30-03-2008, 14:54 Players and teams still required. Anyone interested?
Also, for all those that have shown interest... I would be grateful, once I confirm a date, if you could promote this event amongst friends and family and get them along to support you and your team. I have been looking at a specific site in Sheffield which has a licensed bar and also sells food so I plan to make this a decent day out for you that are playing and for those that are coming along to support the event.
Furthermore, I hope to end the event with a post match drink at a pub in Sheffield. More details once a date is confirmed.
Cheers,
AO.
Agent Orange 01-04-2008, 09:08 Another cheeky bump.... and another request for more players and teams
Robbie Loving 03-04-2008, 17:27 I should be able to organise a team,
Not read through rest of thread, so do we have a date/time on this please fella?
Robbie Loving 04-04-2008, 10:21 Well I've organised my team provisionally for the 27th.
So let me know.
Agent Orange 08-04-2008, 07:52 Thanks for the interest, I will try and arrange this for Sunday 27th April, but need to have discussions with the people down at the 5 a side place before I can confirm anything.
Currently, we have 6 teams and 6 individual players. I am looking for more people to join the 6 players so we can make up 2 teams. Overall, I would prefer 10 teams in total, with the view of playing 4 games each (dependant on the pitch hire) so that players will get value for money.
Ao.
Agent...
thats one of the only days I can't get a team... some of us are are running the Sheffield half marathon... I don't think i will be able to walk after let alone play football.....

No worries, I will try and get a few provisional dates so that everyone can state their preference. Obviously, I would like this event on a day when most/all can make it.
Agent Orange 08-04-2008, 08:58 Anyone live in the Hillsborough area and can do me a huge favour? The pitches that I am planning to hire are down there and need someone to have a gander for me, looking at the pitches and the facilities. Your help would be appreciated. The pitches are at Hillsborough Park, near Middlewood Road.

They are apparently in the building they have down there. Some sort of changing facilities/bar/cafe type area. Not entirely sure what's what hence me asking for someone to have a look for me. Although, I think I am sorted now and got a few peeps to act as my spies :D
I played footy at Hillsborough regularly about a year ago and they have 2 pitches within boards and there is a bar and good changing facilities in the club house.. Staff were pretty accomodating as well...
I also play at Concord Sports Centre which has recently been modernised to that long synthetic/artificial grass surface. It consists of a fullsize pitch split into 3 smaller 6-a-side pitches. There is also a good club house with bar facilities there and plenty of parking. We recently had a tournament at Concord and they did us a good deal on the full pitch.
Agent Orange 10-04-2008, 10:33 Right peeps, this is almost sorted now. Gonna come back to you with a few provisional dates later today, but it is looking almost like it will be a Saturday event due to costs and other gubbins.
AO.
Agent Orange 10-04-2008, 13:03 Right peeps.... provisional date set, subject to getting it booked, Saturday 24th May... hoping to hold the tournament from 11am through to about 3pm. The location, Hillsborough Park (at the 5 a side pitches).
Looking at around £10 per player and will require all monies in advance as security. For the sum, your team will be guaranteed at least 4 games (2 hours worth of footy). The football season will be well and truly over by this stage so there is no excuse not to come and have a laugh.
AO.
count me in for this please, if there are any spaces left :)
Agent Orange 10-04-2008, 20:24 count me in for this please, if there are any spaces left :)
Mega... nice to have you onboard. We currently have 6 teams and with you, 8 individual players. Just need a further 2 players to make it up to 10 and then we can split those into 2 teams. I have had further interest elsewhere so I hope to get the teams up to 10 in total.
Anyone else want to play?
Agent Orange 14-04-2008, 14:10 Anyone else?
Agent Orange 15-04-2008, 10:39 Hi again.... further to post 73, please can you all confirm that you can attend on the date specified by arranging to pay your fees. All fees must be paid before FRIDAY 2nd MAY, failure to do so may result in the loss of your place from the tournament. Furthermore, please confirm your t-shirt size so I can sort all the shirts out.
PM me to arrange the above.
Ta,
AO.
