Does anyone know why it's empty? Went over Woodhead yesterday and there's just a great big mudflat where the water used to be. I would have thought with the summer we've just (not) had, it would be brimfull.

Not sure why though. jomarch 15-11-2007, 21:58 Maybe it has just been drained for cleaning and maintence work RichK 15-11-2007, 23:57 I did the fell race at Meerbrook in Staffordshire last Sunday, and I was shocked to see the Tittesworth (no sniggering at the back) Reservoir where we started from really low - loads of mud etc. Sounds like its not a local thing then... willman 16-11-2007, 07:15 Maybe it has just been drained for cleaning and maintence work they are rebuilding a section of the road, wall and bridge on the left travelling from Sheffield, with scaffolding actually down into the bed of the reservoir. there also appears to be work carried out on the pylons - in significant numbers. so it would appear it has been drained for maintenance. alchresearch 16-11-2007, 07:58 Aren't these a chain of reservoirs? Maybe the water has been pumped into one of the upper or lower dams while the work is carried out. speeder 24-11-2007, 19:42 The lower one has been empty for well over 6 months, the upper one has emptied in the last 2-3 weeks, been doing work on lower one so I can only presume the same is happening to the upper one muddycoffee 24-11-2007, 19:52 I don't know if this is relevent but some years ago there was talk about converting a reservoir at woodhead into a Hydro Electric scheme. |
