Yep it was on Radio Sheffield that they have asked Kaven Walker for permission to speak to him. This was turned down straight away with Kaven Walker saying Brain Laws has the full backing of the board and there is no chance of him leaving.

It also emerged that WEdnesday are quiet annoyed that this has been 'leaked' to the press as last year when Paul Sturrock was sacked we approached Burnley to speak to Steve Cotterill. Wednesday were refused permission and did not say anything else about it to the press and there was any need, though Burnley have found reason release this.

AsPaul Walker was saying on Toby Foster's show this morning, if Brian Laws was going to leave why would he want tt swap Wednesday for Burnley? I know were not exactly awash with money but there not in a great financial state themselves. They also have a very thin squad, basically it's not going to happen.

"Brian's aware of their interest but why would he want to go to a smaller club anyway."

:hihi:

Damn right, stay with us Brian.

Tad disappointed that this comes just when we're starting to get some form. Deliberate attempt to de-stabilise the club.

I'm not Burnley's biggest fan right now.

To be honest ReginalD I had not heard of any rumour towards Laws being offered Burnley job till Wednesday made it public......

Anyways, Kevin Walker is right, why would Laws want to leave the Owls to join a poor club like Burnley? Burnley sacked the best manager they have had for many a year.

I've always believed Laws to be a good manager. If he does manage to get us near the play offs this season, working with what he's got, unlikely I know, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Wigan banging on the door.

But an approach from Burnley is laughable.

Wonder if Burnley are working their way down a list of good managers. They may even get to Brobson.

You better hope and pray Laws doesn't leave, he could well be the difference between relegation and survival if not a play off place

He's staying, he knows Burnley are rubbishWednesday boss Brian Laws has played down talk of a switch to Championship rivals Burnley - by insisting he wants to become the Owls' longest serving manager in the last decade.

Laws, who only recently celebrated his one-year stay at S6 since taking the reins from Paul Sturrock, was subject of an approach from the Clarets earlier this week following the departure of Steve Cotterill.

But Wednesday rejected the approach, blasting the Turf Moor club for making the approach public after Wednesday 'played ball' following their approach for Cotterill last season.

And Laws insists that he's in the Wednesday hot seat for the long run, as he draws a line under the approach from Burnley.

'I'm not a fly-by-night who jumps from one ship to another,' he told the Sheffield Star.

'When I take a job I am looking for longevity. Obviously, in football that's sometimes not possible.

'I could have jumped ship at any time when I was at Scunthorpe, but I stayed for 10 years. If I can become the longest-serving Sheffield Wednesday manager in 10 years, that would be a great achievement.'

And the Owls supremo inists that the approach will only be used as a bost to him and his squad in the coming weeks, as a compliment to the way the Owls have been performing of late.

He continued: 'Obviously it gives you a boost when somebody outside Sheffield recognises what you have done and what you are doing, and pursues you. But now we move forward.'

He only wants to stay for 3 years then?

Somewhat ironic after Burnley made our interest in Cotterrill (aka The Quitter @ Stoke), and their rejection before Laws appointment so well known.

Thank God they did refuse us permission.

Cotterill is a very good manager, and Burnley will regret sacking him.

He presses the panic button too easily, and his team selection is questionable..

Example:
They went about 18 games without a win in the spring, and were plummetting down the table, and had a tough game at Southend, that they needed to avoid defeat in.

So, what the hell was he doing playing an attacking winger (the boy from Bournemouth whose name escapes me) at full back to give away a penalty early in the game, and set them on teh back foot from the 5th minute.?

What manager doesn't make questionable team selections?

True.

He may be a better coach than manager (at this stage). I'd also question his temperament at this point of his career; and didn't think he was the right man for us at the time.... but with more experience he could improve and be good eventually. I accept that.

Seriously lads and lasses does that show how far Wednesday have fallen when they are competing with Burnley for their manager?
Football is no fun at the moment is it?

Yes, Wednesday have fallen but they are still only 2 points behind one of the blades 'better' sides. Things are not good at Hillsborough and haven't been for a while but things at the lane don't seem too bad. That says it all for me! I suppose it's just what you get used to. Wednesday fans have been used to a much better standard of football (pre 2000) and united are used to being....well, where they are now! (apart from last seasons 'outstanding' premiership campaign!)
