View Full Version : I have something in my eye - how do I get rid of it !?
I have something in my eye, and haven't slept all night with it. I can feel it's there (under the upper eye-lid, but can't see it).
Have tried to coax it out with tissue paper (rolled up) and also to wash it ... no joy so far ... it's driving me nuts !!
Any suggestions !?
:help: :help: :help:
coopster1974 29-01-2005, 11:57 Could be its already gone but has scratched the eyelid - I do it all the time and it really feels as though theres something there
Greybeard 29-01-2005, 11:58 Get yourself up to the emergency eye clinic at the Hallamshire. You could do some lasting damage trying to sort it yourself.
If its actually on the inside of your eyelid and isn't moving around then it might be a stye (sp?) I've had them before and they drive you nutty but there isnt any way to get rid of them, they just go of their own accord :? usually a few days..
I've had quite a few mishaps with eyes, I've had a splinter in my eye before, bloody killed, had to go to the hospital :?
also had a small fly shoot into my eye when I was on my bike going fast... it was stuck on my eyeball for about 4 days and drove me nutty cus my eye was constantly watering :(

eyewash with copious amounts of water.
Don't stick things in your eye! - you will only irritate it further.
It may be a corneal scratch (feels like grit in your eye). Try the NHS drop in centre at the hallamshire - no appt needed. They will be able to sort you out.
Have you tried an eye bath?
sally_sheff 29-01-2005, 13:04 probably worst thing you can do is poke around with tissue - you could get fibres from the tissue in your eye too.
Like coopster says, it may be that there's nothing there but it's scratched your eye. If it doesn't ease after a few hours then best go to eye clinic to make sure
Any joy at the doctors Jamie? :)
I tried the eye bath ... well ... half of a pair of swimming goggles filled with luke warm water kinda thing ...
No Joy !! :(
Went to the hallamshire and had a wait of 1 hour before being seen (felt like a right twit going to the hospital with something in my eye).
Anyway ... there wasn't anything in my eye !! ... it was some kind of infection (the nurse said 90% chance it was) ... conjunctivitis or something.
Got some ointment ... so quite happy I went now :)
Thanks for all your suggestions tho :)
Is it in the corner?
Is it possible it could an eye lash that has bent around the eye lid?
I've had this before and it's very hard to see it.
Glad you got it sorted in the end. Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight. :)

Thanks Lickzz, going to lay low for a bit and take things easy. Fisrt time I've been to the hospital in ages, the hour wait was worth it tho (if only for checking out the nurses!!).
bostonaire 29-01-2005, 15:02 This happened to me a few years ago, after bathing it, rubbing it , sticking eye drops in it ....i ended up a the emergency eye clinic at the royal hallamshire .its a good job i went cos i had some rust that had blown up out of the road (they said a common occurance) embedded in my eye ...now this isnt meant to scare you all but its to show you how easy things can happen and as the eye is very delicate its easilly damaged if foreign bodies get in.. nothing major like surgery was needed and it was all sorted swiftly and pain free ...so dont mess with eyes .sight is too valuble, go to the eye casualty any one who has this happen to them
