I quite enjoy taking pics of wildlife, butterflys, birds, trees and stuff but I could do with being better at it.
Is there any teams that specialise in this and go on field trips and then get there photographs on a special website.
I have a Canon EO5 with A 75 X 300 LENSE if thats any use.

I'd love to be, but for a few reasons I have never gotten round to putting some real effort into it....

I love taking all types of photographs, including trees, ponds etc.

I am trying to set up a 'photgraphic stroll' for people to get together & share their photos of the same walk (see seperate thread).

Also, flickr is good to share photos with others, you can join groups & look at other people's photos, leave comments etc. If you don't already use it, give it a go.

I've never really tried wildlife photography before but after getting mobbed by squirrels in the Botanical Gardens last weekend I quite enjoyed it! Some of the results are at picasaweb.google.co.uk/impinabox - sorry - I'm new around here so this thing won't let me post a link :(

Wonderful picks Impinabox! Love the squirrels- I'm hopeless with wildlife photos - brick walls stay still longer!

looks like you got very close to them.

It was hard to get far enough away to focus on the little b***ers! :D Just rattle a bag of nuts and they appear from all sides. They'll even take them from your hand. At one point I thought there was going to be a pitch battle between the squirrels and the pigeons for the last of our nuts. I'd certainly recommend a trip to the Botanical Gardens if you want piccies of squirrels. Or birds for that matter - we saw a Jay quite close up too but I wasn't quick enough to catch him. :(

Guess it's time I found out where the botanical gardens are!

Guess it's time I found out where the botanical gardens are!

Finding them is the easy bit, parking within 2 miles of them, now there's your problem.

Maybe it could be put on the list for a future forum photo meet.

Hah - yes - a common problem in wildlife photography!!!

BTW Pippo - thanks for putting that link on for me. I had a quick look at your Porter Valley pics - one of my favourite routes tho mostly on a mountain bike and difficult to take a camera (since I kept falling off :D).

I'm working on a new website just now and when it will stand up on its own I'll post a link - now that I've posted enough ramblings to allow me to do such things. I'm really pleased I found this forum - it's made me look again at a lot of pictures that were just lying around on my hard disk - thanks for the encouragement guys.

I'm glad it's inspired you impinabox - it's certainly inspired me! Lets hope if we enjoy this photo meet on the 8th, we will arrange another one & you'll be able to come along as well

If you want to take really good wildlife pictures you need to be prepared to sit still and keep quiet for long periods of time, preferably in a hide. I wouldn't recommend going round in a group as it's pretty much guaranteed to scare off anything interesting.

I put my best photos on Wild About Britain (www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk) which has some excellent members who are always willing to share tips and advice.

Search the gallery for pictures by Kev Lewis, John D, jon, jeffH, glsammy, eeyore and matt_xyz to name just a few of the top posters.

My boyfriend has just returned from a fabulous wildlife cruise in the Galapagos Islands. His wonderful wildlife photos can be viewed here (http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/saulmcintyre/GalapagosIslands) and there are more to come, so, watch this space! :)

As you can see I am no photographer but I could not resist taking this about 30 mins. ago. It was sat on my edge at the bottom of the garden.I photographed it through the window.

Well captured lazyherbert, you have a Sparrowhawk to add to/start off your collection.

There seem to be a lot more sparrowhawks around this year - which might explain the shortage of songbirds :(

wow pete - those are really great pictures - i love the robin one.

what camera do you use?

PeteM01

Thanks! I used an Olympus E1 SLR (a fabulous camera, now ~£200 secondhand) with a Zuiko 50-200mm telephoto lens (£500 secondhand). The combo is expensive but totally weatherproof (no problem using it in pouring rain or near crashing waves); to get this system new from another maker would cost quite a bit more....

Nice action shots of the Black Headed Gull, but personally I prefer your Starling photos.
Very common birds, but what nice markings/colors they have. :)
