How many of you would be interested in a swap / part exchange section in the classifieds. Please use the poll and post to voice your reasons why you may or may not want one. What you think mods maybe one or two users would like to mod this section them self's like they do in the pet / gardening and writers group. You would still have to put a price if some one wanted to buy cash or the amount in cash you have and the item you want to part exchange.

Having been a mod yourself Joe i'm guessing you put the no in the poll, so im guessing you have some pro's and con's about having such a section in the classifieds, would you like to voice them.

We're watching ;)

To be honest, the simple way to do this is to put somethign in the title of an advert. Or are you thinking of some sort of matching service where people post what they would like to swap, and wait for an offer of something to swap it with?

EG:

To Swap: Childs bike age 5-10. Would like computer game.

Ummm....you guess wrong.

I haven't voted - can't say I'm bothered one way or another. Not something I'd be likely to use, so don't have a strong enough opinion.

I really wish people wouldn't make assumptions on my behalf!

Some thing like that but a few times i have had something computer related which i would like to part exchange for a laptop and had my thread pulled because i dont want cash (no price shown) so for example if i had a 1TB external hard disk new in the box (worth £150) and i had £100 cash then mabe some one will swap their laptop for it.

My apologies, i just thought you would have had reasons why it would not be a good idea with you once seeing behind the scenes of the forum.

Ah, if it's a swap then perhaps we just need to update our moderating 'procedure' so it doesn't get pulled. The reason that we like to see prices is to avoid dutch auctions, or people simply posting eBay links.

Well 3 No's in the poll but no one willing to say why it would be a bad idea.

I can't see why starting a thread with SWAP in the title wouldn't work.

I guess that you could then lock the thread to avoid the usual 'My Bambleweeny Camera is of a higher value than your Gerferdel Laptop' arguments.

On a pure 'Forum Structure' note such a swap facility would fit better in the existing 'For Sale' hierarchy rather than in the Special Interest Groups hierarchy, IMO, but that would be for 'Da Management' to resolve, because putting it in the For Sale section would probably be more of a configuration issue behind the scenes to allow non-Mods to look after the place.

Would this work:

Swap or partex: 1TB Hard Disk + £100, would like a laptop

i think its a good idea theres threads been taken off before becuase they havent stated a price where they asked for a swap or partex i cant see why it wouldnt be just part of the sale section

Voted Yes.

Sounds a good idea. Whether its in the For Sale section, or its own, I think people would use it. I think I would.

Tried that on 3 different sales and had them pulled, How about we give it a 2 week trial and if it does not work or cause alot of arguements then call it all off.

I voted Yes and would probably use it.
I like the idea of posting what is wanted e.g.

'To Swap: Childs bike age 5-10. Would like computer game.'

But what about the option of 'anything considered' then people could offer their home made booze, or cakes or maybe an hours gardening or dog walking or something similar?
It might be more complicated though?

I see no reason why swaps shouldn't be placed in the for sale section. However they would have to be in the format X swapped for Y or X for sale for £Y or swap. That way you are putting a valuation on your item and not starting an auction. However this is just my opinion and the final say is Geoff's!
