View Full Version : Does anybody know how to open DLL files pinnacle 13-11-2007, 09:52 When i try to email people with DLL files it says cannot open. Can anybody help? Craig7777 13-11-2007, 09:57 See here (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_open_.dll_files_to_see_what_is_written_ inside) :) JoeP 13-11-2007, 10:04 A lot of email clients will prevent you sending DLL files because they can constitute a security risk. Zip them up and send them as a zip, or rename them to a .txt file (and tell the recipient what you've done). What is the DLL being sent? Be aware that fiddling with the DLLs on a PC without knowing what you're doing is a sure-fire way of breaking things, so if you ares ending DLLs make sure you know what you're sending and why, and that the recipient knows what to do when they get the DLL! pinnacle 13-11-2007, 10:11 The reports that my pc generates for the business i do automatically sends this particular report in DLL evildrneil 13-11-2007, 10:14 The reports that my pc generates for the business i do automatically sends this particular report in DLL What's producing them? A DLL is a system file (dynamic link library) so it's a bit unusual that something should be using the same file type name :o pinnacle 13-11-2007, 10:39 I use a programme called PATguard Plus, it generates the PAT Testing reports that i do. If i try and email the report it says cannot open dll file. orbrey 13-11-2007, 10:50 Which .dll file does it say it can't open? JoeP 13-11-2007, 10:56 Good point - does the recipient need a particular application installed to read the reports sent? Cynic 13-11-2007, 11:12 To be honest that is a bit silly of whoever designed that program to make it output files with a .dll extension. It is going to cause problems as they are also system files. You could try changing the extension to jpg and asking the recipient to change it back to dll. They will need the same application you have to be able to open them though. Maybe the program has the option to save the file as something else, txt or rtf for example. These are standard formats that anyone can open. Also it will probably only open the files if you go in to the program and click open and then browse for the file. If you just double click the file the computer will think it is a system file and wont know that is associated with the program you are using. shakermaker 13-11-2007, 11:41 hold up reading between the lines, i reckon the files aren't .dll files at all the op has sent them to his mate, but when he tries to open them, the application (PATguard Plus) crashes, giving an error message about the .dll so it's not the emailed file that it can't find, it's a problem with one of the application's required .dlls does that make sense? shakermaker 13-11-2007, 11:43 op, post the exact error message, along with the names of any files it refers to |
