View Full Version : Is it time for pruning roses? Radio2 12-11-2007, 21:43 All my roses have now flowered and bare is it to early to prune them back or should this be left while the Spring. PCInfield 13-11-2007, 11:32 Prune them back about half-way now to reduce wind rock. Then do your detailed pruning in Spring. Yellowrose 17-11-2007, 12:39 There are two schools of thought on this, one is as suggested by PC infield, the other is to leave them until spring full stop. I tend to do the latter as its what I do with my fuchsias which are interplanted between the roses. With certain plants leaving the twigs and leaves on can protect from the worst of the winter weather. However, if you have a particular problem with fungus, eg blackspot, that might be an indication to clear away anything that might harbour disease. Yellowrose 17-11-2007, 12:44 Apparently rambling roses need pruning now as do spring flowering shrubs, according to Gardeners World: http://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/category/pruning-training/?CMP=KNC-Google&HBX_PK&HBX_OU=50 |
