View Full Version : Need to rehome my 1 year old dog.

Hi,

I have a dog, he's one year old and well trained.

Unfortunately my family's conditions have changed due to things beyond our controol and we are now struggling to provide a decent life for him.

We all love him very much, but to be fair on him it's better that I find him another home with members that can offer more time and have a suitable set up for him.

He's house trained and well behaved, not vicious in the slightest and even good with kids.

Because of him being quite special I don't want to make him go to a shelter. Although I know the RSPCA and similar would look after him very well until adopted I would rather him go straight to a new home as I think he would prefer this.

Does anyone know anyone looking for a new dog or know anywhere I can advertise him?

I am not looking for any money for him, the only condition of him being given to someone is that I know he's going to a good home and good people. If this is the case, he's 100% free.

He's fully vacinated, tagged (electronic chip), insured etc. and has no health problems of any sort.

He's a genuine happy dog who really needs more than we can offer him due to the unavoidable changes in our lives.

I can post more information and photos here if anyone's able to help or is interested, but please could everyone ask around and help us to rehome him?

I will be very sad to let him go, but it's for him that I am considering this action as he'd be better off in a new home.

Thanks

Don't you just love dogs! I think they're absolutely fantastic! They're always happy to see you when you come home and always love a good cuddle!!

He loves other dogs as we socialised him from a young age.

He also likes cats and doesn't attack them as we have three cats in the house, all who will happily sleep with him, rub against him etc. (although they hated him at first, they warmed to him over a few months)

We have also had him around children and he's gentle with them too.

He's always got time to play with anyone that's happy to do so and also enjoys walking and running (he's very quick due to the seluki in him we suspect), but he's also happy to chill around the house with you too and seems to enjoy watching TV as well (actually watches the screen).

Photo's uploaded

I have uploaded some photos to my mate's webserver.

Click here (http://www.afmoore.plus.com/rufus/) to view them (just click each title and then back to view the next)

I am at work at the moment, so only have these few of him, I have some better ones at home that I will upload when I get a chance.

Get rid of the cats and keep the dog, Everytime The cats have adapted to our new changes without any issues at all, so they can stay. But I don't think it's fair on the dog.

I would love to keep him and like I said I will be gutted to lose him, but I am doing this for him. It seems selfish to me to keep him just to please me if I can no longer provide a good enough home for him.

He will be much happier in a new home and that in turn will make me happier knowing that he's being looked after and is happy.

dave I can't really give out my address on the forum, but I am within the city limits of Sheffield.
(Interested people are of course welcome to come and meet him, but posting my address on the forum seems risky)

He's ok on his own as long as it's not all day. We never leave him on his own all day, although like everyone else in this world we do work and he's happy during this time to amuse himself around the house. He's also house trained, so doesn't make a mess.

The longest he's on his own normally is about 4-5 hours on average, but he has in the past coped with longer on occasion.

In the summer we spent a lot of time with him out towards Paddley Gorge (spelling?) and took some mates with their dogs. He had a great time and played with them for hours.

You sound like the answer to a prayer. We are looking for a dog for my grandchildren ages 4 yrs and 7yrs. There would be someone at home with him all day. They have a garden and also do a lot of walking in the local park. He would be a real family member and have a really good home.

That sounds like a great house for him, would you like to PM me your details and we can talk from there?

Thanks

Hi all,

Thanks for the private messages.

I am waiting for my girlfriend to come home tonight so she can read them too.

I will get back to you over the weekend and apologise for not replying tonight, but we really want to make sure everything is done right for the dog.

I am sure you all understand and thanks again for your interest :D

Sorry, I'm sticking my nose in, as rescue dogs are close to my heart.

I know that you do not want your dog to go into kennels, but not all rescues operate in this way. Some have fosters who look after the dog as if it is their own in their home until the right adopters come along. An advantage of using a rescue is that they would homecheck potiential adopters, ensure the dog and the home is right for each other, give advice and support to the new owners and take the dog back should it not work out for any reason in the new home.

It may be a good idea to get in touch with a rescue so that they could help you carry out a homecheck on potiential adopters. They could give you advice on the questions to ask or even carry out the homecheck for you.

If you would like, I can put out the feelers to see if there are any rescues willing to help with either of the above.

I have only just registered and can't use the PM function, so you will need to post here if you would like me to help.

You have raised a very good point about cannine rescue people, they do a very good job in most cases. Obviously I have a vested interest in this particular dog because my family would love to give it a loving home. I'm not altogether sure that the home checks give a 100% picture of the dogs future home.

Having had dogs nearly all my life (60 years) I believe that the animals own instincts will help decide if it's going to the right people. They seem to be able sense the true nature of people.

Sorry to muscle in on this thread but see-ing that your fixed up I thought I would mention about my situation instead of opening a new thread.
I am looking for a dog sitter while I am on holiday.
Anyone interested just let me know.
I live in North Sheffield so the nearer the better but all replies looked at.
She is a beautifull Boxer fully house trained and soft as a brush.
Please don't apply unless your 101% sure you can take this on.

Just looked on here to see how the delightful Rufus story was turning out. Did he find a home yet? Please keep us informed of the outcome!

I'm still waiting to hear from his owners if he considers us to be suitable to adopt Rufus. I really do hope so because he seems to be the ideal dog for my grandchildren. It's not a decision to be made lightly of course, but fingers crossed.

I apologise for the delay in this. We are still reading through the PMs we've received (thanks for the response!).

I promise we are getting back to everyone asap, but it's taking some time to read through, talk to each other etc. and we are trying to make sure the dog is happy where ever he goes.

Thanks for the response on here though, I only expected a couple of 'maybe' replies or something.

Sorry for the delay, we are still going through people's PMs and discussing different points.

There are quite a few of you who generously offered to take him for us and you all seem to offer different good points for him.

I promise we are going to get back to you shortly, but it is taking longer than we thought to get through them all.
