I've faniced F&C for ages but want them to be great (as i never eat them!) I know this is a regular topic and i've looked through alot of the threads but can't seem to find any desirables in the S6 area....
Seen lots of reccomendations time and time again for:
Broomhill Friary @ Broomhill
Codrophenia @ Crookes
Manor Top fish bar @ Maonr Top
So are there any decent f&c shops in S6 or do i have to travel??
thanks all xx

Wadsley Frier on Wadsley Lane just below the church.
Cook from fresh and if I was you I would ask them to put you a mini fish in when you walk in as I find a normal one to big.
Malin Bridge Fish Bar (my fave) or if that's shut, Holme Lane (big portions)

Codrophenia is actually on Walkley Bank in S6, near the Sportsman Pub (unless there's more than one!), so not too far from Hillsborough. Haven't been there so can't comment on the standard.
Did get some really nice chips from the chinese/chippy near the end of South Road, just a couple of minutes from there on friday night. Can't remember what it's called though.

The Broomhill Friery has changed hands - we had the most vile chips from there a fortnight ago, and have not gone back.
When we lived in S6 we used the Holme Lane - they put a mean cod in... and big portions of chips.

I was going to say Wadsley Chippy - its a great chip shop - but dont go too early as if you go when they have first opened there fish can be a bit on the greasy side.
Don't know if they still exist but Broomheads in Crookes, two or three doors to the right of the Grindstone pub. They were the best in Broomhill and Crookes (even better than the Broomhill Firery!!). Traditional opening hours.

I'm not surprised - it always smells vile, and this (http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/business-detail.php?business_id=67494&inspection_type=FH) makes for interesting reading. :gag:
Come off it, the Mermaid is great!
