The famous words spoken by Neil Armstrong as the lunar module touched down upon the moon's surface in 1969.

But....

did you know that he was asked to say those words by Werner Von Braun who was chief architect of the Apollo programme?

The same Werner Von Braun who was a member of the Nazi Party and designer/engineer of the V2 rocket programme during World War II?

And what was the symbol of the Nazi party? A swastika being held by an eagle.....

Just found this out - gives the words a slightly different meaning don't you think?

The capsule was called Eagle 1 - it seems innocent enough to me.

Conspiracy theory ahoy.

The symbol of Rome was the eagle. So maybe it was an extension of the Roman empire?

The symbol of the Russia empire was an eagle. So maybe it meant the Russians got there first?

The symbol of Poland is an eagle. So maybe the words meant Holocaust remembrance because Mr von Braun was so sorry for his past life.

The symbol of Albania is an eagle. So maybe Armstrong was laying the foundations of a detention centre for asylum seekers.

Or maybe, because the symbol of America is the bald eagle, he was stating the fact that America had landed on the moon.

heh heh was wondering if I'd get any bites :hihi:

I just found this in t'internet and thought what a load of rubbish. There's a rather excellent book called 'A Man On The Moon' about the Apollo programme and there's no mention of it in there either.

But Neil Armstrong didn't say 'The Bald Eagle Has Landed', so he couldn't have possibly have meant America! :hihi:

Neil Armstrong wasn't the first man on the moon anyway!!!

It was Tintin & Captain Haddock closely followed by Snowy and the Thompson twins. . . here look:

His scripted line was fluffed too:

Should have said "that's a small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind."

Given the circumstances (first human to ever set foot on another planet) I think it was pretty understandable.

I would have just babbled a string of unedifying superlatives

"Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarking 'ell, this is far out"

He should have said

"Wow! it realy is made of cheese"

for a laugh.

No, no. I told you, Armstrong was a Palace fan not a Brighton fan.
