bubbly_bird8 12-11-2007, 13:20 Anyone else has this problem today? I live in s12 and 2 different people have knocked on today now, the first trying to sell household goods and god knows what the second one wanted. He looked really shifty and asked if i was the owner, when i said no he said well can you go and get them. I was like there not in, i kept my dog next to me, it freaked me out a little bit...

Probley Just Got The Door To Door Sales People In Your Area Today
BasilRathbon 12-11-2007, 13:31 There's been a strange man in our part of town recently in a navy blue uniform and matching sack, who keeps putting small paper items through people's letterboxes. Does anyone know if this is a scam?

I never have anyone like that near me, mainly because the dog gets to the front garden gate before they even think about it.
Did they say what company they were from?
ReginaldD 12-11-2007, 14:01 Well there are plenty of dodgy uns around S12 my area, I've lived there all my life and have to admit it's the worst it's ever been. The community spirit seems to have been lost though I think that is the case in most places. We have some new neighbours across the road and I admit I don't even know their names which seems weird as my road has always been one of them where everyone will know each other and say hello. If they are up to no good now they've tried your house once, I don't imagine they'll be back, just keep your dog next to you. Just tell your neighbours especially if they are elderley, therefore being possibly quite vulnerable to make sure they know who is at the door before opening or put the latch on if they're going to open it.
We got our windows egged last night though I think that is because all the local trouble making youths know my dad is a special constable so I'm surprised it hasn't happened before.
happylady 12-11-2007, 15:14 Beware have heard in a few weeks theres going to be a man in a red coat, with a white beard carrying a big sack trying to get into houses.

the first guy was on about he's got a disability and he had a bad stutter, so he showed a card sayin something like, "my name is (whatever it was) and i have a stutter which has left me unemployed, so i'm selling household items". Or something like that he didnt get a word out. But the second guy looked really shifty, not on about selling anything, i'm just gonna have to ignore door. It's sad that you shouldnt feel safe in your own house, but you hear all sorts of stories in the paper and stuff...

Maybe the police could arrest him with all the DNA evidence. After all he emptys his sack in every house.
Surely he must get cramp

Lol....
It's just wierd because we never have strangers knocking on the door where i live, it seems mad twice in 1 day...
pet-walkiz 12-11-2007, 16:17 quoting user "reginald d" "Well there are plenty of dodgy uns around S12 my area"
That would depend where in S12 you are sir.
mr_busdriver 12-11-2007, 16:21 There was someone knocking on my door earlier for about 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes of ignoring I eventually went to the door
WHen I eventually opened the door, it was actually the wife, she was locked out :hihi:
whitewitch 12-11-2007, 22:29 the other week i had 3 guys walk around the back of my house, bang on the back door, and before id had chance to get to an upstairs window to ask what they wanted, they had gone, got into a red van and drove off, never to be seen again, very dodgy indeed

Following NuLabour's privatisation of Christmas, Father Christmas lost the contract for delivering gifts to "Three Wise Men Ltd", a consortium based in Swansea famous for their distinctive bright red vans. As their insurance will not cover them for going down chimneys, they are currently in our area checking our back doors to make sure they can sneak in to deliver our kids' presents come Christmas Eve.
Hope that's cleared it up for you!
I live in the S12 Area and can i say that i know everyone on my street and as for it getting worse i dont think thats the case. Well not on Charnock thats for sure.
If its bad were you live you could always start a Neighbourhood Watch.
All you have to do is call 01709 365908 then have a chat with your neighbours see if they would like to help, then at least you might get to know each other better. Give your local police station a call and have a word with the SNT ( safer Neighbourhood Team) i am sure they will give you help.
We need to help each other and take ownership thats the only way things can get better.

you mean rudolf has gone too:o I will miss the sleigh bells and clip clop of hooves on my roof:( better leave the spare key under the mat on christmas eve......glad you told me basil, i need to watch the news more often. Personally i think its down to money though, i bet the big fella got paid handsomely and it was cheaper to pay the other 3 men to do it:rolleyes:
The_Bear 13-11-2007, 13:39 I had a knock on the door the other night. When I opened the door there was some strange bloke asking to speak to someone I have never heard of.
It wasnt until I had slammed the door in his face that I realised I wasnt actually in my own house. I had mistakenly gone home from work to the wrong house.
Oh, how the occupants laughed once I had explained my mistake to them. :hihi:
I'm in S12 they were collecting for deaf children in India (alledgedly), although the one at my door was difficult to understand, he wasn't asking for donations at the door, he was looking for people who would be willing to donate on a regular basis, he didn't want my long card number just my bank account number & sort code, he was quite surprised when I laughed at him, I asked if he also wanted my house keys & car keys before I shut the door on him

Perhaps you should post your name and address, along with all your bank details, and sort code etc on here. Also your minibank card PIN number. Then if you forget them, someone on here will be able to tell you what they are. (yet another good idea from Pitsmoorlad)
okka north 13-11-2007, 19:44 easy - don't answer the door.

I'd agree. Ridgeway is full of shifty characters, stolen cars tearing around and locals fighting in the pubs...
There is a sceme where people who just got 'let out' attempt to sell things like hand towels, sponges and various household CR4P that if you needed it you would have gone out and bought it already. Two have knocked on doors in S17 at my address, one was trying to be well mannered, the other was rude and going thru the motions for what ever reason.
