my ps2 has started making rattleing noises and is now no longer reading the disk, so i am assuming that the cd drive has crashed can anyone recomend somewhere that can repair said ps2/

personally i had hoped my 100th post would have been on a more happier note!!

I think that Disc Direct near Staples at the bottom of the Moor may be able to do it - they do chipping for XBoxes and I think P/S2's as well.
To be honest though, if it does need a new drive (with labour on top) you may find that it's not much more to buy a new unit with a further year's guarantee.

Oddly enough its not illegal to chip x-boxes, playstation 1's etc. Just PS2s, which is one of the reasons they are hard/expensive to get done in the UK.

Not illegal yet - but just because someone hasn't yet been successfuly prosecuted through our archaic legal system doesn't mean that it is right and proper. Anyone thinking of chipping a console should be aware that they may well be breaking the law.
Anyway, I belive there's several other threads on the matter so will stop getting off topic here.

re play station 2 the place to go to have it repaired is station x in rotherham {wellgate} in town centre will modify it for you for £60 also hope this helps steve..

If you are wanting to mod your ps2 - I'd recommend a fliptop lid with a swap magic combo.

Better than having your ps2 ripped open and chipped.
