I remember watching MR,
what a bizarre confection it was. No the BBC didn't ban it, neither did they or ITV? ban captain Pugwash, because that didn't have any suggestive names, that is recent made up stuff..
see here for details :-

Magic roundabout was originally a french production. And If I'm not mistaken they didn't translate the french storyboard, they just made up another story in english. The theme music I remember to be very sinister.
Can anyone remember all the characters?
Dougal, Florance, Dillan, Mr Grimnasty, Zebidee, Ermintrude

Didn't they do the audio / sound track for M.R. after they had the video !? So they just made it all up ... hence is was so wierd / trippy ?

I got a Brian pencil topper in my cereal this morning and it doesn't look quite right. Not how I remember the MR characters to look anyway. I've hidden it under the sink.

Muddycoffee, I've heard that the original cartoon was in French too, hence the rather trippy storylines...

You've forgotten Brian the snail and Mr Dusty... was he the train driver? I think there was another girl in it as well as Florance, but I can't remember her name.

My mum used to love the Magic Roundabout, and my sister has still got a big plastic Dougal on wheels from when the original series was around.

I fear it is another example of 3D obsession. Removing all the character from the old series into a standard 3D film with just the same names :(

Nope. It was first produced in France by Ivor Wood (of Postman Pat fame), and when it came over here (twice refused by the BBC, it was voiced over by Eric Thompson (Emma's Dad) who used to often turn the sound down on make his own lines up.

I don't think I'll bother going to see that one. I just know how bad it's going to be.

Wish they'd show MR again from the beginning.....just before the news like it used to be, but I'm not sure if today's adult audience would appreciate the whimsy of it :)

The last 'original' episode I saw, a couple of years ago, definately had reference to: "growing mushrooms, they were majick mushrooms.....":heyhey:

The Magic Roundabout is great. In fact, it's the best thing to've existed ever, at all.

Meh, I've seen the movie a couple of times (it's on Sky every other day), and it's OK, the cheesy 70s soundtrack helps.

There has already been a film made "Dougal and the Blue Cat" when the cat tries to take over and Dougal has to fight her. I saw it as a student, it was well trippy

Dougal, Brian the snail, Mr MacHenry, Mr Rusty, Dylan, Florence, Ermintrude the cow, there was a "Boy" character called Paul, who didn't feature a whole lot, (and wasn't there a magic train?) there were two other "children" characters, a blonde haired girl, whose name i'll have to google, and another boy.(again, like paul, they didn't feature much)

there is a wilki about it here:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_Roundabout
and something broadly similar here:-http://www.televisionheaven.co.uk/magicroundabout1.htm

i've found the other names:- Rosalie and basil!
