View Full Version : Inner city blight

Facilities such as launderettes, recycling bins, cyber cafes wholefood stores are non-existant for those living within the ring road to the south of the rail station without travelling out of the area; the area cries out for a backpackers hostel (cities smaller than Sheffield sometimes have several) and the provision of decent walking routes to encourage less car use is obviously a concept that has yet to be recognised in the planning department.

The whole area is blighted by derelict buildings that could easily be brought back into use in a way that would transform the area instead of leaving it as one big traffic island as it is at present. Instead of turning every last square metre into extra new buid accomodation units (especially at a time when the take up for these is likely to drop for various reasons) wouldn't it improve the health and wellbeing of everyone if traffic was calmed and greater emphasis placed on making somewhere people enjoyed walking around ?

Time for a rethink ? Anyone out there? There has to be an alternative.....
