When will you put your Xmas tree up? Think mine will be going up on either the 15th or 16 December. I always get stressed about it, don't know why but I want it to look perfect. I spend the run up to Xmas messing about moving things round then after Xmas I'm not bothered just want to get the damned thing down!

Ooo you're posh. I just love getting my stuff out cos a lot of the decorations have memories with them. I've got a fairy that we used to put on our tree when I was young, she's about 45 years old.

Mine goes up when I feel like it (usually some point in the middle of December) and comes down again on 12th night. I've got no idea where it's going to go this year though, because the space where it has gone every other year now has a sofa in it!

our tree will go up sometime in the week after the 16th, and it wont be colour co-ordinated, I have a lot of bits on the tree that the kids have made (and continue to make!)
However there is a flat on Park Grange Road and they have their tree up already, we saw it last night :loopy:

I'm normally too lazy about erecting my tree so I prefer my housemate to do it for me.

When my dad can be bothered to go into the loft to get it probably. Though I've been trying to convince my mum and dad to get a real one for about the last ten years.

What do we think people real or fake?

My mum's latest excuse is our dog may decide to pee on it.................... he's a three year old labrador, I think he has slightly more intelligence than that.

It comes down during the first weekend of the new year.

Ah, the annual argument between me and my wife and kids.

Each year they push to have it put up earlier and earlier - if they had their way it would go up in June!! (OK, maybe not that early!)

There are very few traditions that I adhere to - not being religious, all those traditions mean little to me. The traditions I am talking about are the ones my parents passed down to me (which, as my mother was very Catholic - going to midnight mass and all that - I suppose some if not all of the traditions I try to hold to have some religious foundation).

Any way, the putting up of the Xmas tree is an annual debate.

Firstly, no artificial tree for me - Xmas is artificial enough as it is and I don't mind the needles dropping; there is nothing more fragrant than coming downstairs to the smell of pine

Secondly, putting it up as near to Xmas as possible. Tradition has it that you put it up on Xmas Eve and take it down on Jan 6th - Twelfth [sp?] Night.

My wife's interpretation is that you put it 12 days before Xmas and take it down on Jan 6th. Making it 24th Night (:loopy:)

So, we (I) compromise and settle for around a week to 10 days before Xmas.

Taking it down is on Jan 1st - our youngest was born on Jan 2nd, so we try to make her birthday feel like a birthday rather than part of Xmas.

Mind you, with the shops stocking Xmas 'stuff' in late August (Morrision, Ecclesfield, Aug 20 something, had Xmas choccies, nuts and so on on a 'seasonal' isle!!!) by the time Xmas comes around I've well and truly had enough of it.

And that is the saddest bit of it all.

According to today's Daily Mail, the government is thinking of banning real Christmas trees from next year due to the environmental impact of acres of pine trees being chopped down on an annual basis, not to mention the carbon emissions caued by burning them once the festive season is over.

Seems that from 2008 we'll only be allowed to use recyclable materials to make christmas trees with; apparantly one enterprising abbatoir in South Wales has already suggested making Christmas trees out of the carcasses of slaughtered animals.
Could this be the way forward?

When will you put your Xmas tree up? !

More to the point why mention it when it is only early November. Why mention Xmas at all until at least 1st december at the very earliest. What next - what Easter eggs do you like?:loopy:

i love putting the old tree up! we normally make an afternoon of it and go out to Castleton (weather permitting) and look round the shops and go for a wintery walk and then on the way back we call at the nursery/ garden centre and dig a real tree up and take it home and decorate it- lovely! i love the smell of a real tree and once we got stuck in the snow on the way home from Castleton cus it had started to come down heavy! lol!

Cloudybay's festive tip for slimsid..............go out and buy yourself a Christmas tree tomorrow, together with and a nice little fairy to sit on top. Then send a letter to Santa..........and if you're a very lucky boy, your wish may be granted and you'll get to put yours up early. :)

I'd rephrase that if I were you. Remember what happened the last time you went on an internet forum and asked "Anyone else fancy it?"?
