Yes, they would go together, but for a few more quid you could invest in an AM2 board and chip that would give you a better cost:power ratio and slightly more future proofing.

Socket 939 is 'old' technology. Why not go for AM2 (socket 940) if you're buying new - for example...

It has the much better AMD690G chipset and ATI graphics, plus 4 SATA 300 ports compared with just 2 SATA 150 ports on the 939 board, and gives you a much wider choice of cpu to use in the system ?
OTOH hand if cost is the primary focus then the 939 bits look very good value :)
