Traffic Wardens, who needs them, motorists can decide themselves where to park without nosey parkers sticking their unwanted and in many cases unjustified parking tickets on to the windscreens of poor soul's cars, who, for whatever reason have had to leave their car to conduct some essential private business.

There should be a law against this kind of persecution, we already pay, pay and pay!!! the poor motorist is being picked on all the time, what with speed cameras, humps in the road and last but not least, wheel clamps.
These latter day Dick Turpin's are allowed to disable our car's on a whim, ban them I say!!! contributions please.

If only they would! but yes with the recent introduction of Congestion charging which is a gold mine for the councils. Why the hell do we pay road taxes? This congestion charging is sure to catch on elsewhere. I don't see why they need the damn wardens, I mean - these days I would have thought they could have a camera to do the lot.

A wheel clamp is a device for turning a temporary road hazzard into a permanent road hazzard. Senseless

A traffic warden is the result of the union between a prostitute and a wasp. A little yellow ******* with no sense of humour who ruins your day.

You know, traffic wardens really do help certain areas.

The number of Cashpoint Cripples (people who park RIGHT OUTSIDE the cashpoint while getting some money out, regerdless of where the bank is. crossroads, ways onto roundabout, nowhere is safe from them. There's just no excuse for it IMO) out there who might stop doing what they do from a swift fine in the right place.

Let's not harass these people, they are doing their job, if you've been affected by them, it's your fault i'm afraid, shouldn't have parked there.

I expect there are some malicious traffic wardens out there, but like every profession, there are always idiots in every job.

Lets not let the sins of the few create a bad stereotype.

I suppose that they're only doing they're job afterall. However I do admit that they can be annoying!!

I think that although they seem annoying, they're on of those 'silent services' - without them, you'd have people leaving their cars all over the place, just like in other parts of europe... but then I've never left my car anywhere I shouldn't have!!!

The reason that we have speed cameras, humps in the road, wheel clamps and, most importantly, traffic wardens is that there are still too many selfish drivers who think that their private and important business is more important than everybody else's. The people who drive too fast, don't slow down in residential areas and park where they're not meant to are usually the first to complain about people speeding and parking illegally, imo.

I think TWs fulfill an important role in society. We constantly hear about the yob culture and why don't 'they' do something about it. Yet we constantly see people parking illegally with kids in the car, either strapped in or not. What message does this send out? That "my mum/dad says it's OK to break certain laws because they're wrong laws"?

Back to the subject of traffic wardens (female).

There is a beautiful lady warden marshalling the traffic at full time outside the South Stand at Hillsborough, she is often the best thing to happen in that local on a Saturday afternoon.

I have often seen her in Broomhill...

Oh my god, I'm fantasising about traffic wardens and its only Monday morning.... Is there a doctor on this forum.

I would trust most car drivers to park responsibly but there are a significant number that wouldn't. Enough to make the idea unworkable. I think that without controls on the places and times you can park the city center would grind to a halt.

The safe parking spaces would go first, taken by the people who work in town so the space is likely to be occupied all day. This happens now in the areas of town just on the outside of the controled zones.

By the time people arrive to do some shopping there would be cars lining the dual caridgeways in town, both up the kerb and the central reservation. Why wouldn't they? There is no law to say they can't. This would have effect of reducing the capacity of these roads dramatically. Traffic flow would be slowed significantly.

It would only take a couple of cars to park without leaving enough room to cause a major problem. Witness the problems refuse collection wagons have maneuvering in streets lined with cars.

If you have any rules whatsoever about where people park then you have to have people to enforce those rules. They need the authority to impose fines or people would ignore them.

Sadly, the Traffic Warden is a fact of life.
