Does anyone know what that HUGE crane is doing over millhouses park? What are they building there? There's a hell of a lot of earth being moved?

Any ideas?

Could it be the Supertram extention they were talking about?Proberly not as this would be progress which is not a good thing for a lot of Sheffielders.

It's probably one of those things Yorkshire Water is building, I don't know what they are but I think they have something to do with rainwater and river control.

Or it could be something interesting which Millhouses park realy needs, being one of the more boring parks in Sheffield.

I think they are just replacing the sewers/drainage. They have done something similar at Endcliffe Park I am told.

yeah- endcliff park has virtually all been torn ip and there his heavy plants everywhere- such a shame :o(

The work in Endcliffe Park is being done by Yorkshire Water to reduce pollution in the River Porter. They're installing a huge underground tank which will take any storm surges from the sewers that would otherwise overflow into the river. When the levels fall it can then be returned to the sewers where it came from. The work is due to finish June/July 2005. I'm not sure about the work in Millhouses but I suspect it's a similar project.

Algy is quite correct, the big hole in Millhouses park is to hold two big tanks so the sewers wont be emptying out into the river. Looks frightful at the moment but they have promised to return the park to it's original look. Can't remember the thread but am positive this has been discussed in further detail only weeks ago.

Can we have the lido back when it's all done then?

That would be nice but don't hold your breath, that Lido's been shut for Donkey's years.

It was fun but realy filthy towards the end, with all the creepy crawlies and leaves and stuff floating about in it.

I have a (another) fantastic idea ...

They could combine the storm surges / sewer water tanks with a brand new underground lido ... two applications in one !! ... be just like the old days !!

That looks more like a ship's hold!! I had envisaged some of those green plastic jobs. :huh:

It's supposed to be finished by next month and some how I doubt this is going to be the case. Any volunteers with a spare shovel who'd like to help out please form an orderly queue at the gate!!
