Do you ever write a message in here, and just before clicking send, you realise, maybe you shouldnt be saying it, so you scrap it?

Do you ever think maybe, you could get in trouble by what you say, maybe, someone could read it and sue, or you may be banned, or just pee everyone else in here off?

I seem to do it quite often

I do that. The amount of times I've seen a topic and flown off on an ill advised tangent but been reined in by common sense is off the scale. This maybe a turning point where I read, think, formulate and then post.

As for the police business... Jeez. I have stopped myself typing things many a times, not anything that would be criminal, just maybe offensive to others.

I do try to be nice though... Honest! ;)

I type what I'm thinking, same as I always speak what I'm thinking... it gets me in trouble at times :? but nobody can ever complain I'm not honest or open... lol

only one minor problem is that fact I ramble and think loads of crap so then it comes out as crap from my fingers or mouth... lol...

oh no, I'm rambling again :? toodlez!

And of course, if you REALLY drop the ball big time you can always report yourself and ask a Mod (nicely!!) to remove the posting.

The best bet is, be nice - don't make nasty, mis-leading, untrue, or a---y comments. :)

I have had to do that - but not with nasty posting - just double posting, etc.

I have often wondered if we get watched by the powers that be. Thanks steevie now we have the answer.

I bet kirky's mate (the little fat bobby) is watching to see where his next pub is going to be though :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

I do that often. Just done it a couple of minutes ago on the post about Joe in the Star. I was going to mention that his hairs grown a bit since he had his avatar picture taken but it came across as sarcastic, which I didn't mean it to be, so I scrapped it.

Damn right my hair's grown!

Didn't get the chance for a haircut before having my photo taken!

Anyway, we writers are supposed to be mad as cheese....:)

The creeping fear that someone somewhere might be watching what you post and digesting it, in some way assessing your political motives and possible criminal tendencies... isn't that just like everyday life in modern Britain?

Thing is, they are probably watching you. I remember a time when there was an odd delay before all my phone calls got connected. Strangely it coincided with my then partner, a journalist on a big international newspaper, taking spy-just-out-of-exile David Shayler to lunch. Did subside a few weeks later, but not before I'd had much fun picking up the phone and saying "I know you're out there, Daphne" and "Red Fox, put down the bacon sandwich" before dialling.

In fact, there was wonderful news a few years ago about MI5 scanning email traffic keywords. Cue much hilarity as a mate and I used to exchange email with titles reading "that donkey with Semtex up its bum you've got tied up in the back of yer van, Seamus" etc.

In sum, get on with living your life and thinking freely. Express it if you can with eloquence and conviction. And without swearing. Was amazed to find that well known saying (and Shakespeare quote) "kick against the (begins with pr, rhmes with 'licks') got *** edited by this site's auto edit. Hadn't thought about it that way and got rather a nasty visual image stuck in my mind for a while. Most disturbing.

I'm the opposite - I spend so much time thinking about what I want to contribute to a thread that someone else posts exactly what I was thinking, but only much more succinctly.

See?! It's just taken me 10 minutes to compose this!! :(

Well, the way I see it we can brighten up the otherwise dull lives of some dour civil servants somewhere, while dispensing with all the bother of actually being a proper terrorist or criminal. Now about those drugs you hid in the consignment of blow-up sheep...

Hello EVERYONE!

Someone I know works for a Government Department and we both suspect his/her phone is being tapped. We don't have anything interesting to talk about so someone out there must be getting very bored!

With any electronic communications - we always assume 'they' are watching, reading & listening. If I feel strongly enough about something I'll say it, but sometimes a bit careful about how I say it.

Just spice things up by putting a few choice keywords into your conversation. "those digestive biscuits will go down a BOMB WHEN HIDDEN in the kid's party packs. Do you think GEE HAD a good time making the GELLY and ice cream?" "Ooh, I don't really care, me. I'm no fan of hers, she's too bossy. COME THE REVOLUTION if I got my way I'd RAM ALL ER jelly down her front, I would". And so forth. It'll wake the spooks up anyhow.

Funnily enough, I've got it in the neck from fellow forummers telling me to keep my nose out when warning people not to respond to requests for pirate software and games.

I was only trying to protect some people from themselves (and the police)

Not if the police obtain your IP address from your ISP - which they can. Bob's your uncle - they have the account holder's name.
Your totally stuffed if you on a static IP (at least with a dynamic one, you may get a different IP).

Everything that you type is probably read by someone you wouldn`t have even thought about when you wrote it.

Even with a dynamic address they will trace you. ISP's keep logs on which user accounts where dialed in and allocated that IP address at that time. They also keep CLI info to see what number it was dialed in from.

Although posting anonymously is easy enough as there are plenty of anonymous proxies out there. I often bounce off proxies in brazil (seem to be a lot there!) if I am doing anything I wish to keep anon.

(so if there's any policemen reading this, my computer needs confiscating and inspecting for illicit material) :loopy: :suspect:  did you not read this thread before posting? :suspect: :loopy:
