View Full Version : Troublesome band reunions

I read today that My Bloody Valentine are releasing new stuff. I used to love them, and one of the best gigs I ever went to was them at the Adelphi in Hull, unable to walk in anything approaching a straight line afterwards due to inner ear interference. But there's something I find not quite right about band reunions which makes me want to avoid seeing/hearing them. I noticed also that Throwing Muses (my all-time favourites) did a recent album. Have never dared hear it - too much to lose!

Thanks TeaFan, I've now got a mental image of MBV doing a Take That-style stadium tour, complete with screaming thirty-something fans, and doing ad campaigns for Marks & Spencers menswear! :o

Over the last few weeks I have heard comeback singles on the radio by Duran Duran, Wet Wet Wet and The Eagles, all of which are complete and utter middle of the road drivel. I expected nothing less from Wet Wet Wet to be honest but I would have expected a little bit more artistic integrity from the other two, but no. They have sold themselves out completely just making the assumption that they will earn a huge wad of cash based on their previous reputations.

Should have just left it alone and leave people with the memories of when they actually used to be good.

Well, they never technically split up

Other than a couple of tracks the new Eagles album is garbage.

Atomic Kitten reformed for the Liverpool City of Culture launch, apparently.

MBV are playing a few gigs as well. One of them is at the Manchester Apolo which I think is a bit on the large side to be doing a comeback gig in, considering they aren't that well known.

My Bloody Valentine were well-named - after seeing them live my ears were practically bleeding :gag: I had gone along to see Blur, and was not impressed with MBV - sat there with my fingers in my ears the whole time, and I was still deafened beyond anything before or since

Saw MBV in '89 and '92 and thought they were bloody marvellous. 'Loveless' is one of the best albums ever.

I can't decide whether I want "The" Madness to become successful again. I like the new song but they are all middle aged men now (except for Suggs who looks exactly the same!)

It was when Take That reformed that I was really annoyed. They despoiled the fond memory of their fab cheesiness by allowing Gary Barlow to let loose with properly naff cheesiness. Every time a Morrisons ad comes on I wanna shake the telly with rage and yell "Bring back Sean Bean voiceovers, pleeeeease!" It just underlined why Robbie left. Still, I felt sorry for Howard and Jason and if it gives them a few bob...

Haven't even Terrorvision reformed now?

Ruddy Atomic Kitten split up like last week! Soon bands will be reforming a month after splitting up.

The Jesus and Mary Chain are supposed to be releasing a new album this year, having played some gigs last year.

Although never having actually split up, Portishead are due to release their first album in nearly 10 years in April.

It's not just bands that are reforming - I bought a packet of ham the other day and in the ingredients it listed "reformed meat"! What I want to know is what made the meat split up in the first place?
