View Full Version : Possible ear infection...
ToryCynic 26-01-2005, 23:47 Hmm... I think I have an ear infection - I find it difficult to wear earphones for a long time, and ears get sore after around half an hour of wearing them .
Is this a sign of an ear infection...?
Note: Not an ear ache - as this would be having the music up too loud.
Cheers, Alex
Don_Kiddick 27-01-2005, 00:00 pm-ing you about this Alex but it's bounced - your pmbox is full...
I suffer a lotof ear infections as I wear ear plugs every night and the first sign for me is not pain but an intense itching. The itch scratch cycle starts and before you know where you are, full blown ear infection complete with deafness is the result. :(
Sounds like a possible fungal infection, Alex....
Stop wearing the cans and get thee to a physician!

Very common with in the ear buds, if that is what you are using.
If you are using buds, and you are experiencing pain in the cartilages of the outer, switch to non-bud earphones.
My right ear won't tolerate the in the ear type and starts getting all hot and painful after about 30 mins. Nothing more to cause it than the pressure of the earphone against the outer ear.

I usually use my finger to get wax out; (:suspect:)and the type of earphones are the ones that don't have the soft padding - as I found the ones with were annoying.
I think I'll pop over to the doctors about it this weekend.
Cheers, Alex
Lucy_Smith 27-01-2005, 12:06 I used to get ear infections a lot when I was little and I was always in a great amount of pain so don't know whether it's actually infected?
Nowadays I don't get infections but get lots of wax (disgusting!), the doctor told me to put olive oil in my ears once a month before I go to bed.
It's probably best to see the doctor...let us know what they say!
Lickable 27-01-2005, 12:13 I have a hole in My ear drum and some important ear bones missing. I went to the doc with an ear infection and told me to put ear drops in. I did and it was the most painful thing ever.
ToryCynic 27-01-2005, 13:08 After feeling unwell at College - I'm also taking lustral - for another thing - and feeling the side affects of that - I went to the walk-in clinic in Lewisham; after being transferred to another building of Lewisham Hospital, I was asked why I went to this one and not one in my own Borough [Bexley], I explained that it was because I came from College.
Anyway, the guy had a look with the "O" instrument, and it was a bit of crappy wax, he follwed with: "the best thing to do is get a prescription from Galesbee at your local surgery".
As for the lustral, he said stop taking it, but on the instructions it claims the best course of action is to steadily stop taking it...
I got off at the bus stop outside the Colyers Lane surgery, only to finsd that it is shut on a Thursday - - we are in a medium-sized town you know, not a rural village...!
Cheers, Alex :)
chillicat 27-01-2005, 20:12 Do NOT stop taking Lustral completely - you might get a rebound effect (where you suffer symptoms greater than those the drug was treating). It's better to wean yourself off slowly.

My ears get blocked quite regularly. My dad has the same problem. It's either hereditary or because we both worked in noisy steel works.
My doctor used to tell me to put warm olive oil in, but I've recently heard this is a bad thing because the oil can help make an ear infection worse.
You can get a pressure water spray that you use in the shower. But definetly see the doc and DON'T use cotton buds or your finger!
Lucy_Smith 28-01-2005, 16:54 This is really disgusting but here goes...
The doctor said my ears get blocked because the wax is too hard...apparantly if you put olive oil in it softens the wax? Although, I expect you are right, if your ear is actually infected then I can't imgine olive oil would do it any good!
I've had my ears syringed loads but it's just back to normal after a few months so I've given up! It doesn't exactly cause me any pain as I don't get infections any more so to be honest, there are a lot worse things I could have!
Interesting what has been said about it being hereditery...my mum gets the same problems so maybe that's true!
bostonaire 28-01-2005, 17:38 ive had this loads of times.....usually thru shoving hard head phones into my ears when i think theyre slipping out.ya dont realise at the time but when ya take them out then it hurts..try soft bud head sets
