I get the Gazette on a weekly basis and this goes straight into the recycle bin.

Does anyone actually read their free newspaper?

What is your free newspaper called and what area it that delivered to?

Do you have a free paper delivered?

Answer the poll.

I have a quick skim through the free papers.
Not a major look, but to seeif owts interesting.

EG: I look through the Leader paper to find houses for sales that are very similar to mine, and see how much they've gone up in value!

I used to get the Gazette delivered each week but it does not come any more!

Can't say I've ever read it, I just read the Sheffield Telegraph once a week. The junk mail is probably the main reason I never scan it, it's just easy to throw it all in the blue bin rather than seperate the two. And the fact that there is so much junk mail with it has caused me to associate the two thus further lessening my desire to read it.

Wow! They still do the Gazette?!

I haven't received one for years!

It was OK; I liked the weekend TV guide

Never seen it at the Classic Rock Bar.

We get the Mercury newspaper, free at the end of the bar - full of advertising and local music info.

We don't get a free paper, but my mum does.

They sometimes print the same piece of news more than once in the same edition, or sometimes they repeat last week's news if nothing new has happened. The front page exclusive is normally about a lollypop lady retireing from the school, or a couple reaching their 1000th wedding aniversery.

There is one page of "news" within this paper, and the rest is adverts.

Occasionally, for no apparant reason, the print a photograph upside down.

haha

I delivered gazette for a few weeks in my youth... first time I did the entire round (about 600 papers for a tenner).

The next week I sacked a few off....

Then after that I started burning them, throwing them in the recycle bin etc

They didn't cotton on for a month or so...

I know countless others who did the same...

It's like a typical local rag.

It hardly ever gets delivered and when it does it has one article about council business, another about a local school and the rest of the paper is made up of adverts for local garages selling cars.

Ive lived in 9 areas of sheffield....it's pure hit and miss if you get it or not.

that still happens, as every year we get called up by the gazzette to ask if we receive our papers, and every year we tell them the same thing, we haven't had one for years

Since the council haven't come and emptied my blue bin in nearly 3 months, there's about 20 copies of it in my blue bin if you fancy coming and scrounging!

Nope, no Gazette here for me either, but from the looks of the poll, I don't seem to be missing much ;)

Been here about 6 years and never received a free newspaper (not had any calls to check if we've received it either). I don't think we are 'on the map' as yet, but I could be wrong.

We've started getting the Star every day and have always had the Telegraph on Fridays, so I don't think i'm missing out on anything.

Dont need a free newspaper- got the Forum. Better than any newspaper and you can argue with it if you dont agree with any of its posts.

I've got a thing about the woman who delivers the Gazette to my house every Thursday, she's lovely in an older woman kinda way. So I'm all for free newspapers!! :)

They don't bother delivering it here any more, maybe the paper boy just dumps them all in a skip & saves us a job.

We used to get it fairly regularly but haven't seen more than a couple in the past 6-8 months.

It's ok for a free paper I guess ... (if I ever see one again that is)!

Why? I don't expect it's improved, if it never gets delivered then it saves a bit of space in my blue box & saves me the trip from the letter box to the recycle bin. I expect my paper boy is just being efficient, taking all the waste paper straight to the recycling bin & pocketing the cash, job well done.

Most of that goes right in the bin for us. As well as free local magazines and the green paper with the sports results.

Bin, bin, bin.

If I wanted the paper, I'd subscribe to one. We used to have a sign on the door saying no free papers or whatever, they seem to come through ten fold after that.

We used to get Gazette but they stopped to deliver it about year ago. We have Leader but two weeks ago they changed it and now it's more about adverts than any news. It should be freebie for communities but I can hardly find something interesting in it. Lately I needed to find church services through Easter but also this info disappeared.

The Eckington Leader used to be a good free paper but it is now just a joke! It even resembles the Sheffield Star masthead, with numerous house ad references to the Star, poor content .... consisting of about 16 pages ... don't know why Johnson Press bother?

Yesterday a friend gave us Sheffield Gazette, today we got Eckington Leader. Comparing them we found 80% of articles in the Leader are the same as in Gazette. Nearly nothing for area of Eckington, Halfway, Killamarsh...

Look local is a great little free paper. I read every word on the obituary page every week. It provides a moment to reflect upon the special people who I love and care for. The letters page is usually ok sometimes hilarious. Great gardening section. There is only a handful of news items but that's fine. Can't knock it :)
