I don't think so, but everyones different. I don't mind Skeggy, but only for a day drip. once in a blue moon. it's north of the Humber for me, much nicer.

Maybe it's the closest beach? It's not my choice of destination but I'm sure it's lovely if you have small children, for a day out.

skeg vegas is flat and easy walking. also like little sheffield as a lot call it.

Nearest beach; back in the days when people piled off on holidays in coaches, it was also the easiest to reach (all roads were bad in those days).

Nowadays, it's mostly from force of habit, I should think.

as people i know from lowedges and the manor and gleadless all seem to go every yr and the and stop in a static caravan

i think the nearest coast to sheffield [beach] is cleethorpes . skegness is 84 miles from crystal peaks going dunham bridge way. i like to go just to be away for a couple of days . i have a static and believe me it is not a cheap hobby , it costs a lot more than when we go abroad what with ground rent petrol etc but its nice to just get away and do some fishing and dog walking. with cheap flights from doncaster now you can be in spain near enough a quickly and as cheaply.

think you'll find thats '' mablethorpe''... and as for loads of sheffield people, i dont know anyone who takes a holiday here, days out yes!!

i'm from gleadless and i for definate dont go on holiday here!!! :loopy:

What does it matter really where people choose to go on holiday? Or was it a loaded question in the first place? Lets see:

1) perhaps people don't have that much disposable income so they choose it?
2) Perhaps people have different priorities and don't spend a bulk of their income on a holiday?
3) perhaps because it's quite a flat landscape they choose it?
4) Perhaps they have family near by?
5) Perhaps they like it???
6) Perhaps if you live in York, you would choose Bridlington?

I heard Skeg was full of Nottingham people on holiday?

Sandsend (outside Whitby) is also known as Sheffield On Sea because so many people bought holiday cottages there years ago when they were cheap! Which makes me deadly jealous... :(
