But I can tell you that he is not found on Google anywhere. Topgear put loads of Red Herring rumours out there, and even get some real drivers to pretend they might be him.

Ive been to a shooting of TG and saw Stig, unfortunately his back was turned when he removed his helmet and was out the studio door in a flash, but he had short blonde hair, almost eminem colour/style.

The identity of the first Stig was revealed to be Perry McCarthy when his book Flat Out, Flat Broke was published in 2003. McCarthy is a former Formula 1 driver and test driver for the Benetton, Arrows and Williams teams, and also tested for BMW F1.[2]

The identity of the new Stig has not been officially revealed. In a Winter Olympics special episode of Top Gear, the Stig was shown doing a ski jump using a snowmobile. According to the Swedish tabloid newspaper Aftonbladet, the driver performing the ski jump stunt was Dan Lang, a Swedish snowmobile cross driver.[10] In January 2006, a Daily Express article reported that Julian Bailey was secretly the Stig.[11] In January 2007, Russ Swift, a stunt driver that has appeared on the show a number of times, said in an interview that the Stig is not played by just one person.

TopGear is a good show, but do you really NEED to know who the stig is? Some people think they know, but thats just famous or likely people who have been asked to hint they maybe are the stig. Such as when Damon Hill said, "I am not the Stig. But then, only the true Messiah denies his divinity."

Oh and don’t believe LadySmith as the identity of the Stig is only known by a very few people. It’s like me saying I know where Lord Lucan is, but I don’t want to say as I like to be part of the mystery.

Russ Swift is probably the most likely candidate, but as Ghozer pointed out, the Stig is played by multiple people for different stunts.

But Russ Swift is the holder of multiple stunt driving records. Autotrader asked him outright about a year ago and his reply was “No comment. What we... (laughs) .. what Top Gear like about the Stig is the fact that nobody knows who it is. It is not one person.”

The only possible reason its not him is he spends a lot of time out of the country making international motor show appearances, so would find it difficult to appear on the show.

You know what SupraSteve, it could have been you as no one actually knows and those who do guard the secret as otherwise the whole section on the stig has less impact.

Think about it ... if people knew who he was, other race drivers would be claiming they are better or could have done a better time because they think they are better than who the stig is, but if no one knows who he is, then no one can claim to be better.

One of my fave Stig moments was when he nearly fell out of the JCB Fastrack when they were comparing tractors & 'planting petrol'. The best bit was that, at no point of him faling out of his seat, hanging on to teh wheel for fear of his own life, then climbing back into the seat, did it affect his commitment to the lap time - he just carried on giving it 100%! :D

I've always thought it was Nigel Mansell as he's one of the only people on this planet with that sort of talent but I agree, the name Ben Collins seems to pop up a lot with the 'Stig' :huh:

I found a site a few weeks back that lists all the possible candidates and then assess' body language, height etc and that ruled N.M out for me...

It is now noted that the new STIG is probably several different people, but mainly played by a stunt driver called Russ Swift and also former racing driver Julian Bailey, amongst others....

The main Stig is Ben Collins who was named in the H+S report into Hammond's crash but there are a couple of others
