Does any 1 from Sheffield go down Rotherham at weekend???

Rotherham has got alot better!, Liquid & diva has just opened plus Envy and Underground which have recently opened.
I know that Underground wont beat Niche but it is good, free entry on any night Mon, Thur, Fri & Sat and all drinks are £2.
People who are not into Speed Garage why not try Mazeppas which has just been refurmished, or try liquid en Envy!......

Some places in rotherham are trying to get late licences, Liquid have got a 3 closing and Underground are trying to get a late licence until 4.

Try it out.......ROTHERHAM!

rotherham has better nightlife than sheffield does it ?

So do people travel from around the country to have a night out in rotherham ?
So has rotherham got one of the best indie nightclubs in this country ?
So has rotherham got a great live music scene ?
Has rotherham got many late bars ?
Has rotherham got 2 whole streets packed with bars/pubs ?
Has rotherham got 12 nightclubs ?

Answer the above and see which is better sheffield or rotherham

Rotherham has a 3.5 Million pound super club does Sheffield?
Rotherham are trying to get late night liecences!
Rotherham has 8 Nightclubs & a street or bars!
Rotherham is alot smaller than Sheffield as Sheffield is a city and i didnt even say that Rotherham was better, i said Rotherham is just as good, so i dont know why you have started this, people may travel to Sheffield more as it is more known because it is the 5th biggest city in the country the population is 513234 ( http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/pyramids/pages/00cg.asp) and rotherhams is only 248175 ( http://www.statistics.gov.uk/census2001/pyramids/pages/00cf.asp) DOES THAT EXPLAIN WHY MATE????????????

ah but that is Mingdom innit so doesnt really count heh heh

pros and cons for both sides

rotherham fall out of pub fall into pub
rotherham cheaper drinks

Sheffield - fitter women (if thats sexist then lets have a ladies view on the men)
Sheffield - More diversity in music

Both have good points both have bad

Personally i like to jump on train and head to Wakefield!!!

I went into Rotherham last night and I loved it, I even had my birthday bash in Rotherham two weeks ago. I've seem to have boycotted Sheffield nightlife for Rotherham & I've got to admit Rotherham wins hands down.

Liquid & Diva is better than any club in Sheffield and put your mingom's & Chavcrasher One to great shame.
Underground is the sight of a Church when you go in lol but I feel much safer going there than other Speed Garage Venue in Sheffield (Ie: Niche, Stone House etc)
Most of Rotherham bars open till late (Millianos, Millenium, Zeppas)
It's the same price in a taxi for me from Rotherham as it would be coming from Sheffield
Some quality totty in Liquid & Diva
Plenty of bars to cater for all & plenty of take-away's too

Ch m8 - I live in Sheff at the moment, moved from Rotherham to Sheffield to see if da city life wo better than town life. Found out after 5 disapointing months that Sheffield doesn't even half match up to Rotherham. I've been in just about every club in Sheffield and tonnes of bars on West Street/Ecclesall Road etc. And nothing compares to clubs like The Underground and the Liquid.

The Kingdom is well dutty. Clubs like the Liquid and even the Beach are miles better. If that's your biggest and supposedly best club you have nowt to compete wi. Although I think the Niche sounds wicked, I've never bothered goin cos the Undergound is so much cheaper (free 2 get in n £2 all drinks) and it's got all the best new/old speed garage tunes you could want.

Sunday's a r8 gud discount n8. You're guarenteed a good night out and it's well cheap. The mazzeppas is free to get in and £1.50 all drinks (it's just been done up and looks mint - it's now 2 floors), and the Liquid (3.5 million pound super-club!!) is free to get in and £1 any drink. Compete wi that. Just drive past the Liquid n take a look. It's mint.

So basically - sack Sheffield off. If you want a good night out get your sen to Rotherham. End ov chat x x

I would just like to say thank you for the good comments that have been posted about the new Liquid & Diva in Rotherham - we aim to please (and yes Bigtone there is some quality totty - I was quite suprised myself when we opened)

Smoky_B your right Rotherham does not have 12 nightclubs but it does have Liquid Diva and you dont need another 11.

For those who have not visited us as of yet why not take a look at our website www.liquidnightclub.co.uk/rotherham - I would tell you all about whats going on in the near future but the forum has rule n all so everything is on our website.

Any more comments re what you would like to see int he near future include them in this forum and I will see what we can do?

Thats the same places i go too!! ;) When i went i Liquid i was impressed, is i nice club (apart from the compulsory cloak room!!! ). In Rotherham you seem to get a better mix of people cos the town centers pretty small. The only problem with Rotherham is that everyone seems to be absolutly hammered by the end of the night!!!!

Do you ask people to spell the words that they are speaking Kristian, i would assume you are rivetting company. Are you, per chance, looking for a copy of Acker Bilk playing the hits of Nelly Furtado while posing as a stigmata on the cover (with sleeve notes)

Apologies all, I was just trying to stir things up a little! Looks like I did. AngelEyes, since you ask what was wrong with your post:

No space after comma before word "Cafe".
No space after "Milano's".
Questionable use of hyphen before "it's too far"; would have been better with a semi colon.

I'm sure that if you look hard enough at my posts, there will be occasions when I have made the odd typo; and I appreciate that nobody is perfect. It just struck me that there was NOT ONE on this thread that was perfect. :D

Liquid is amazing as far as these "Superclubs" go - it become my regular Friday night spot and I can't fault the place I love it!

There's something for everyone there, drinks prices are ok for a club & they do have offers on, good quality of tuneage - I mean you don't hear Underworld's "Born slippy" or Proidgy's "Firestarter" in Mingdom of Gatecrasher One do ya?

At least they're making the effort with PA too (Girls Aloud & Lemar) instead of some has-been who used to be in Eastenders that you get in Mingdom.

Dave something you do do is put on a Bus serivce from Sheffield city centre to Liquid lilike Club Wow used to do in it's Hay Day. It'll create more custom for you and the club itself

Speed Garage is seriously not my scene, so it's not a club I would visit and also do not feel I should comment on that. However does Sheffield have a club that caters for people who are into it? If so how does it compare?

In fact I don't really bother with clubbing much anymore anyway - tend to do late bars more these days.

Anyway, more generally speaking, I am bored of Sheffield. That is not because Sheffield is rubbish, because it aint!

I do reccommend that people do go out and try new places now and again, keeps life more interesting.

Rotherham, Barnsley, Wakefield, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Derby are all not too far away by train, all have a good bar crawl and provide a good night out, then you simply get a train back to Sheffield around 11:20pm, back in Sheffield for midnight and into a club.

nice venue, nice folk in there, not too much att.

ohhh, & the Drink Price's are CRAZY CHEAP, im shure last time i was there they dropped price to £1 a drink for 1/2 a hour or summit mental. Good Stuff ( Dance Floor Emptyed tho!!!! )

also they have some of sheffields finest Speed Garage DJ's playin there from time to time

So it cant be that bad!

Speed garage is pretty big in Sheffield, Niche is the main place for it really. Zero used to run a night a while ago, don't know what it's doing now. Aqua was running monthly all nighters at one point as well I think. It's not something I enjoy though to be honest although I've ended up at a few nights.

Some valid points.......

We could not get Lemar due to reasons beyond our control, Girls aloud is still been looked into (Nobody ever said that were booked and paid for tho)

The ticket page on the website automatically sends out tickets, depending on what day you are looking at is different prices - £3 B4 11pm is for Friday, Sunday is Free and Thursday I believe to be free before a certain time, Saturdays are Q Jump only (all tickets also include Q jump - which is very helpful)

Speed Garage is not going to happen sorry.

Since when has only saying good things been a requirement of people?

Society needs its critics as well as its promoters, y'know, otherwise apathy rules.

Back to the point, you already asked if people were going to to rotherham 2 days ago and got no response. Then you make a double post asking another irrelevant question when you coulda just edited your previous one.

Finally if you think bumping is anooying, why can't you see that by asking the same question again isn't just bumping by any other name?

Oh wait, no, you didn't you dismissed me because you couldn't argue (or perhaps understand) some of the things (or words) i said.

Glad to see that some people from Rotherham are living up to the stereotype, unlike me.

Just to finish this off. I used to go out in Rotherham, if this club has made Rotherham nightlife better then it wouldn't take much.

How much it has made the nightlife better, if at all, is the debate.

Carcrash - afaiaa the Charters arms is still going and putting on bands, though the only ones i have seen there have been the direst of angsty teenage bands direct from their A-levels at TRC. Guess thats my misfortune.

Also why argue in the face it only causes problems, the internet doesn't as most people can differentiate it from so called 'real life'. I am a student at Sheffield and i live next to Leadmill. None of the Sheffield clubs or bars lived up to their expectations, and i travel most nights to Rotherham to go out as i end up having a much better night. Sheffield have 'some' good student nights but that is the only focus of the whole city.
I am amazed at how many options are available in Rotherham for a night out, they have more clubs than Doncaster.
Also have i heard that there is a new club open this weekend in Rotherham or am i just pushing it?

Student nights the only focus of the whole city? You've obviously not looked around enough - there's plenty on that isn't student orientated.

Being a student i spend most of my time looking for great new places to have a good time, it seems i will have to keep looking elsewhere.
The only good nights seem to be student nights, on any other night the clubs seem to be at a loss. There are no good bands anymore, apart from babyshambles a few times a year!

I find this thread very interesting as I was resident DJ at Bar 1 in the town between 1997 - 2003.
When I was invited to become resident I was still playing at Club NATO in Leeds and was astonished to see that a towns entertainment was so one dimensional. Cheese cheese cheese and more cheese. I decided that rather than have a small slice of a large pie (or cheese cake) we should have our own pie. From there on it was a strict diet of house music each and every night. The first few weeks were hard work. Very hard work, but by the second month we had grabbed the imagination of the locals who were starved of variety (and quality).
Its safe to say that for the next four years we was the venue in Rotherham that everyone wanted to be in. If not for the music than just to be where everyone else was.
Just to give you an idea of the music being played (and bearing in mind the period of time) Armand Van Helden- You Dont Know Me (a year before radio picked up on it) Xpress2 - Smoke Machine, ATFC - In and Out, Morales - Needin You, Sasha - Xpander etc etc...All quality house music thrown through a fantastic sound system.
The down fall of the place was god awful toilets and incredibly inept management (at the time) and a lack of direction.
If I add that in 97 no one , not even the clubs used flyers until Bar 1 came along and changed that.
So if youve read all this, you'll be wondering what my point is.
Simple. Surely someone in Rotherham must have the ******** to try some thing different (and credible) to the rest of the town.
People from outside the town use to love visiting it.
People from the town use to love having something exciting, vibrant and different to talk about.
Its seems the town has gone back to a stable diet of cheese cheese and more cheese.
To answer this threads title...Rotherham's nightlfe has gone backwards.
Peace
D

I've never been to Rotherham but i'm not convinced that i'd try it out anyhow - i would doubt that they'd be enough interest to warrant a 'decent' venue - what i call decent is of course open to personal intepretation but something along the lines of a chav free clued up funked up venue!

I also make the assertion that all provincial towns are like this - (and the whole of the South West!) don't get me wrong i'm sure you all enjoy your 'funky' orientated nights but i wonder what kind of people actually goto Rotherham's 'headline' night(s)

they wont let people in with trainers in at weekend ( fri & sat) but they dont mind during week. No hoodies, trackies or coats. And sometimes depending on the door staff you have to hide your chains. :)

Underground!!! You ought to be underground you half wit. Try reading threads properly before having a dig.
I spent around 2 months at Tryst before deciding enough was enough. And just to correct us both, Tryst opened in June 2004.
So not even a year has past yet yet.
As for it being s***, i'll leave that to other people to comment on.
Suffice to say when I see many of the former Bar 1 regulars, conversation always gets around to me returning to the town as 'Rotherham is full of commercial crap and speed garage s***'.
Oddly enough no one I know has anything to say about Underground whatsoever.
And if what you say about Tryst is correct, in that its s***, then why not take the opportunity to do something different and inventive. Capture the publics imagination.
At the other end of the scale Liquid looks fantastic but just duplicates what Kingdom does (thats not a compliment btw).
Grey, dull, cheesy.

Dimitry, i know who you are, full respect to you mate, i was Friday night resident at New York New York (main room) from 99-02 and had to play cheese to reflect an opposite to Reflex boys in the back room.

Used to come in Bar 1 before started work, quality tuneage. i'm back in Rotherham now at Cafe de paris on a Friday playing..... yes you've guessed it party and cheese!

We are closing down though soon for a refit and when re-opens i am really going to push for a funky house night as Rotherham is real need of one

I'm sure there's a decent mark up on bottles of water but think about it mr underground. If I was managing a venue in any town I would much sooner have a wealthier customer ordering 4 bottles of Peroni each round than some one wanting water to wash his gear down with.
Speed Garage is very much a street sound and is ideal for a young kid making his bottle of water last 4 hours, getting off on repetitive fat bass lines and wondering where he can get more cheap whizz from.
Think about the clubs that do speed garage and how much they charge in. Its not the glamouress surroundings youre paying for, its cause no one spends over the bar.

Underground i started there 4 weeks ago so if you pop in come up and say hi.

Damn - Classic house is what is needed - now that is my scene and era, play us yeke yeke for me! failing that Phase II - reachin.

Or if you subscribe to mastermix get issue 227 and check out the old school house mix on it - may spot a name on it heh heh

had a smartarse ("trendy shirt and drink brigade) come up on friday saying "do you know what year it is mate"

Explained to him that management want cheese and party to contrast milano and have the two venues as seperate identities.

"bit dire then innit"

10 minutes later he was dancing on the top bit near the toilets to Jackie Wilson.

Thats why its closed, they closed it soon after Liquid opened in order to revamp it.

Cafe de Paris is closing for a facelift and will re-open as "studio" around november, hopefully i can persuade them to let me do a funky house (NOT speed garage) night combining us/uk house with club classics.

I know the dj at M Zeppa but i doint know what he plays. At cafe de they are deliberately going down the cheese party front to make milano different to it, thats why i was brought in.

Just had a quick skim through this topic... but...

Yeah Tryst do have Speed Garage nights - with guest DJ - Jamie Duggan. Posters are up around for the various dates. Not my cup fo tea, but Speed Garage is quite popular.

I'd say at Tryst - House is the main genre. Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays are Funky House & Dance, while Fridays are RnB.

Music's got more dancey recently, pop in and check it out.

Mmm Liquid and Diva - Luminar Leisure at their very best! :hihi:
My favourite thing about Luminar clubs are the carpets. Where the hell do they get those from. Though not when you can't walk because of years of stale alco-pop spillages and your feet stick to the floor! The Zone anyone?

If you're after a good night in a town try Huddersfield - some great bars there. But avoid Visage and Ethos like the plague - Luminar club = Luminar clientele.

With all the comotion regarding Rotherham's night life, I thought I'd like to inform you Rotherham folk that The Voodoo Lounge is starting a comedy night on Sunday 12th February. The doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm and will finish at around 10-10.30.

So us Sheffield folk can get the last train back to Sheffield if we fancy making the journey.

I think tickets will be available from Snafu.

I think, and don't quote me cos things are never set in stone till you see who you've got coming in and the response you get, but I think one night has an Old School theme, Retro, good classics - you know the drill. I personally am into house, real nice funky stuff and older stuff. Also liking a bit of RnB and hiphop but weva that gets played is anuva thing.....as I said, we'll just see how it goes. Reasonably commercial stuff, with up and coming releases. As for the theme of specific nights, i can't quite remember but that will be varified tonight. Best thing to do is come and have a look!!! ;-)

Lived in rotherham my whole life. The nightlife is awful. Only 2 decent pubs, all the clubs are full of townie chav scum and crap music. If you're slightly alternative you don't walk around near the club area on a thursday friday or saturday because you will get hurt... most probably stabbed. It's a frightening place. My friends and I tend to got to Sheffield more these days cos it's a lot less frightening and theres more of a variety of places to go. In Rotherham it's either trendy wine bars, night clubs or old men pubs.
