View Full Version : TGI Friday's. What's it like?
5nil Wal 06-11-2007, 16:04 Going to TGI Friday's on saturday night for my neice's 15th Birthday Party.
I've Never been and just wondered what the food is like and what the general feel is of the place.
I have heard there is a good bar
367squadron 06-11-2007, 16:05 It's alright just typical American/Mexican food. Portions are good but they should be because it's quite expensive.
OwlsChick 06-11-2007, 16:15 very very nice but very expensive for what it is!

Its cheaper for a reason - partly because of their employment policy, which seems to me to be to employ the cream of the crop from London Zoo!

I quite like it but it is a bit expensive, altho I usually go for the 2 course menu for £10.99.I love the ribs.I wouldn't say the portions are massive but I am usually full after my 2 courses so it depends how big your appetite is.

since when did they start serving food on plastic plates at damons???
:loopy:
Annoni_mouse 07-11-2007, 11:17 Ive heard Damons serve Rustlers burgers, and Microwave curly chips...
Craig Holmes 07-11-2007, 11:27 I went to damons on Monday and it was excellent. Which surprised me as it had been average the previous 2 times. My dad got a free fillet steak as it was his birthday and as it was lunch time, I got BBQ chicken and half a rack of ribs and some really tasty chips for £6.50. top value!
never been to TGIs but I hear the waiters pull up a chair? thats just weird.
OwlsChick 07-11-2007, 11:31 Ive heard Damons serve Rustlers burgers, and Microwave curly chips...
if you actually went to damons you would know that they dont serve curly chips. they are straight cut actually :hihi:

Of course they serve curly fries - and billy bear meat, and turkey twizzlers - you know, the kind of stuff kids love:hihi::hihi::hihi:
367squadron 07-11-2007, 12:54 since when did they start serving food on plastic plates at damons???

Well it did last time and the time before. It certainly wasn't the normal plates you get in a restaurant.

367squadron 07-11-2007, 13:40 Plastic. You must be having a laugh
Nope not at all.
OwlsChick 07-11-2007, 13:53 Of course they serve curly fries - and billy bear meat, and turkey twizzlers - you know, the kind of stuff kids love:hihi::hihi::hihi:
if you say so. just like they serve all the food on plastic plates.
367squadron 07-11-2007, 15:02 if you say so. just like they serve all the food on plastic plates.
I assume you work there then?
OwlsChick 07-11-2007, 15:45 I assume you work there then?
No
i just love it
CaptainChaos 07-11-2007, 18:14 Being the pedant, Damons serve their food on POLYCARBONATE plates. Plastic to anyone without the necessary testing kit on their person. I assume this is so the aforementioned London Zoo employees dont break them when slinging them back onto the shelves.
Having said that the food on them is cheaper than TGI and just as average.
Both establishments serve brake brothers vac packed south african wildebeest steaks, and ribs coated with BBQ/char grill smoke flavour.
In short you would need to be bloody gasping, or sad and desperate for a birthday freebie before eating at either.

thanks, that settles it then!
Is Damon's that place near Crystal Peaks?
EldonEng 15-11-2007, 12:39 I personally went to TGI's with my partner two weeks ago, it cost £56.00 for two starters, two main courses, and two coca cola's. The starters were ok and came pretty quick, but then the main courses took 45 mins to arrive, which i didnt think was very good. None of the staff seemed to know what they were doing, not a very good experience at all. I have visited Damon's on many occaisions for a good few years and have never had a bad meal yet, it is a regular eatery for myself and my partner and family, the most expensive meal we have had there was around £45.00 which was a lobster meal. So not bad value at all compared with TGI's. Just because the decor of Damons does not include complete clutter all over the walls like TGI'S does not make it a rubbish restaurant.:)
OwlsChick 15-11-2007, 13:52 Damon's specialise in cuisine from the American Continent, with dishes ranging from award winning barbecue ribs and their specialty onion loaf to fine steaks, quality seafood, sizzling fajitas, ciabatta sandwiches and much more.
Damon's pride themselves on being one of the few restaurant chains that genuinely cooks to order, using fresh products wherever possible. Combine this with generous portions and a relaxed atmosphere and Damons really is the place to eat.
Damon's can seat over 150 guests at each of their restaurants. A spacious and comfortable lounge where guests can enjoy drinks both before and after their meal is complete a fine dining experience for the whole family.
mrsmills 16-11-2007, 13:01 Damon's is marginally closer to an authentic American dining experience, whether you want or like, whether it an objectively good thing is quite another matter altogether.
TGI Friday's is over-priced, over deep fried, ridiculously expensive in terms of the alcoholic beverages and all the walls are covered in counterfeit Americana, the staff are usually quite bored but feign cloying over-enthusiasm in what they believe to be the American way, that said if I had a serious hangover and needed some comfort food it would not be overlooked and that is not a sarcastic remark and the food, if you like that sort of thing is emminently edible, just don't go there with any great expectations.
CaptainChaos 27-11-2007, 16:49 I think inedible would be closer to the mark. I was cajoled into going back to TGI by my teenage son, £70 for starters and 4 burgers is a complete joke. I left most of mine, chips cold, bun processed ****e, burger, never been near a ****ing animal of any description.
In short very over priced and not fit to eat.
one word of advice do not eat in damons i worked in there a couple of weeks back and left because the place is badley managed. the staff are really rude to the customers i could not belive paying people put up with this !!! the meeters and greeters are the worst very rude, the managers are all stale and bored like the food and if you saw the kitchen i would think no one from sheffeild would eat there at all its disgusting full of grease it needs a good scrub do not know how they get away with it what with health and saftey, while i was there they took a take away order and customer had a wheat allergy he also stated this at time of ordering it turned out he ended up with normal food of the normal menu so man ended up very ill because the left arm does not know what the right one is doing , not only that i cannot belive how they let children run around the restaurant screeming and shouting as if its a play ground, when i said somthing to the manager about this saying its not fair to the other customers who are paying for an expensive meal as the foods not cheap he just srugged his shoulders and walked off he really didnt care , at the time i was also working there with a black girl im white btw and i felt they didnt treat her to well either not giving her hours ect sending her home first ect i felt they didnt really want her there but had to employe her because she was black .
Anyway dont know were owl chicks is coming from what a load of *** foods fresh prouduce, cooked to order its all pre packed rubbish like all the other American chains how do you think they can turn over so many people in one night all that place is intrested in is making as much money a poss and turning the tables around as a quick as they can to do that .
cheekychimp 27-11-2007, 21:10 TGI's is brilliant, me and my boyfriend go all the time, the food is great, always fresh and doesn't take long, we've never waited more than 20 mins from order to main course arriving, even at xmas which considering we didn't book is pretty good!
Also when we go we both have a starter each and a main course, a burger and a chicken sandwich, and usually four soft drinks, and it's never cost us more than £25, apart from when i have cocktails, which are great at TGI's.
Also staff are really friendly and not pushy, i highly recommend it (as if you hadn't guessed already!) for a great meal, even a great night out if it's a special occasion.
And i have to agree i really dislike Damon's, been a couple of times and have been dissapointed with food, service and the drab decor of the place each visit.
CaptainChaos 28-11-2007, 16:38 Jeez, are you part of the TGI marketing team. How to dress up an adverse comment and make it look like I am talking ********.
Simple sum:
Take your £25 for two, and double it, as I stated four. Add to it a round of drinks and I think you may well be very close to the £70 I paid.
Only a complete ****** would be happy paying that for something akin to a slightly up market McDonalds.
mrsmills 28-11-2007, 17:57 I've not been to Damons for many years and even then not in Sheffield, I won't be making any effort to return. I have to say I'm surprised two courses for two, unless making use of one of their promotions would come to anything close to £25. If it were more reasonably priced it might be worth going to.

i was just offering my honest opinion in response to a question, i didn't do it to ask for your opinion on what i say and what i think.
So please keep your unnecesary thoughts about my opinions to yourself. As for your sum i don't know why you felt that was needed, as i said me and partner go there and it's never cost any more than £25, for the two of us, incase that wasn't clear.
OwlsChick 30-11-2007, 10:24 Anyway dont know were owl chicks is coming from what a load of *** foods fresh prouduce, cooked to order its all pre packed rubbish like all the other American chains how do you think they can turn over so many people in one night all that place is intrested in is making as much money a poss and turning the tables around as a quick as they can to do that .
Listen dont pull me into your little outburst. i happen to love damons and i know plenty of people who also love it there aswell. Its called an opinion so what your saying i couldnt really give two flying donkeys about. The restaurant is still pulling in loads of custom and money. To be honest if it was as bad as youve made it out to be it would have been closed down along time ago and it hasnt has it.
So all in all, its not my fault that you decided to work there as 'chief superintendant damons hater isit?
