View Full Version : Buying double glazing
We had a double glazing sales man come round from an un-named company, who claim to provide SAFE and STYLEish glazing, (in the UK). (I'll get me coat!!) Anyway, we were looking for double glazing so accepted there offer of a no obligation quote, with the understanding we wouldnt agree to anything that night whatever happened.
A different guy knocked at the door later that night to give us the quote. He then proceded to spend about an hour trying to confuse us and convince us that every other companies windows would turn pink and fall out within 2 years and how theirs were the best.
Eventually he spent 4 minutes measuring up 10 windows and calculating the price. Then told us a rediculous figure, then halved it then took another 10% off, then phoned his boss who said we could have a more expensive window for the same price. In the end the price wasnt TOO bad but still more than we had expected based on what family and friends had paid. So we said again, that we would think about it and get back to them, this prompted more phone calls and extra incentives and discounts. This went on for about an hour and In the end he got angry and left, refusing to give us the quote on paper. When I asked what we did if we wanted to persue the quote he said phone the main number and ask for someone to come round to give us a quote.
In summary what a complete waste of time, his and ours. If he was never going to give us a quote to think about as any sensible person would do why bother coming? Are there any double glazing companies out there that dont behave in this manor, and operate in a sensible way?
jonhanson 26-01-2005, 14:20 I know of a good family run double glazzing company, that dont have dodgy sales people and that just give you the quote without any of the messing around with discounts that dont exist.
The number is 0114 2507097, the lady is called linda i believe.
There has been loads of double glazing enquiries of late.
I will tell you the same as i tell everyone else.
You will do no better than "The real" Yorkshire window company.
They have been trading 22 years and you will get a genuine 10 year guarantee. These might not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.

WallBuilder 26-01-2005, 14:25 I think I've had the same salesman, loved the sound of his own voice and took offense when I said I watched 'Rogue Traders' and 'Watchdog' and didn't appreciate his pushy manner, his demands that I had to sign there and then if I wanted to accept the offer, the way his price halfed in just under two hours, his phone calls to his manager and the even better deal HE was prepared to offer if i signed up NOW.
I want some-one to come in, measure up, give me a quote and tell me how long the product is guaranteed for, that's all not a lot to ask is it?
1Man&hisBMW 26-01-2005, 14:41 Warwick Developments are good for windows too. Based in Ecclesfield.
Thanks for the recommendations, will probably get a quote from some of them.

We had same company were here 5 hours, then they said £17.000 for 15 windows... and all these phones calls took place wow and more and more... then it was announced if we wanted to reduce our price if we let people come round and look at the before and after we could reduce it to £5.500 wow big reduction in the end we got it down to £3.500 if we'd got money to throw away we'd have paid £17.000 con men
I used warwick developments too very good and cheap, the only complaint i have after 15 years is that i have one misted sealed unit and the rubber seals need replacing on the opening windows they also don`t do maintainance or cleaning work on the products that they installed, i rang them to ask a few years ago.
That said i did get extra locking handles on each opener for no extra on the price and they made very little mess and cleaned up after themselves.
thomsongirl 29-01-2005, 16:49 We had the same type of sales speech from the real yorkshire windows. Went with Chapeltown Glass in the end. They came out measured up, took around 20 mins. Sent the quote through the post and that was it.
I have also been told that Loxley windows are good.
