View Full Version : Any info on low plane nutter 05-11-2007, 19:31 it was flying across dronfield across to mash lane eckington way just wonderd if anyone else saw it thought it might bin in trubble as it was very low could bin hit buy a firework thats how low it was alchresearch 05-11-2007, 20:03 Coming in to land at Apperknowle maybe? alex3659 05-11-2007, 20:04 theres an airfield there it was probably landing nutter 05-11-2007, 20:07 bit big for Apperknowle air strip it was a rather big plane not a private small plane checknumber 06-11-2007, 06:44 was very large plane , had a lot of lights and windows , came over eckington and then veered very slowly over spinkhill , was going very slow for such a large plane , seen about 7.10 on 5-11-07 Tony 06-11-2007, 07:51 Was it a jet or did it have propellors? pumplet 06-11-2007, 12:00 i saw it too - was at Dusty Miller at Barlborough and noticed how low it was with all the lights on! nutter 07-11-2007, 15:12 ya the 1 i saw had loads of lights still no wiser to wot it was but was way low just mabe had problems thanks for the replys though checknumber 07-11-2007, 15:36 couldnt tell if it was a jet or had propellers it was to far away , the thing that stuck in my mind was the size and all the different lights that was eminating from the windows , it just seemed to hover then shoot off over spinkhill /barlborough sweety 07-11-2007, 16:32 sounds very odd nutter 07-11-2007, 19:31 wont mined nowin wot the hell it was doing like lol sweety 07-11-2007, 22:28 so no one knows why a big ass plane was flying so low............well it must just be one of them things no one can answer....let me know if you do find out though KenH 08-11-2007, 07:31 couldnt tell if it was a jet or had propellers it was to far away , the thing that stuck in my mind was the size and all the different lights that was eminating from the windows , it just seemed to hover then shoot off over spinkhill /barlborough If it is too far away to tell if it has props or jet engines then you can't possibly tell how high it is. pinnacle 08-11-2007, 07:53 If it is too far away to tell if it has props or jet engines then you can't possibly tell how high it is. Of course you can, if your on a hill and the bloody things below you id say you can tell its low. Tony 08-11-2007, 08:01 So was nutter looking down on the aircraft from above? KenH 08-11-2007, 08:09 So was nutter looking down on the aircraft from above? It depends which nutter you mean? Do you mean the original poster or the nutter who said "it seemed to hover"? I have probably looked down on more aircraft than most, if not all, people on this forum and can tell you that you simply can't tell how high an aircraft is if you look at it from a distance, particularly if it is so far away that you can't even make out the details. I do know that it is unlikely to have been in "truble". Craig7777 08-11-2007, 08:18 It was me in my private jet ;) MrH 08-11-2007, 08:22 This is also being discussed on the aviation forum PPrune - and no answers there either! nutter 08-11-2007, 10:09 it was only just above me it went across the front of the flats were i live wot bit of pprune it on like to look into it more MrH 08-11-2007, 15:41 It's in the "Private Flying" section checknumber 08-11-2007, 18:32 so people who reply to other peoples questions and give their honest opinions are nutters ,at least we are not sarcastic posters checknumber 08-11-2007, 18:38 [QUOTE=KenH;2814310]If it is too far away to tell if it has props or jet engines then you can't possibly tell how high it is.[/QUOTE who mentioned the planes height ? Tony 08-11-2007, 18:52 4 posters mentioned it. Don't worry about it. Sometimes aeroplanes fly a bit lower than usual. As long as there isn't a steaming hole in the ground there is nothing to worry about. checknumber 08-11-2007, 19:05 must agree Phanerothyme 03-12-2007, 19:05 4 posters mentioned it. Don't worry about it. Sometimes aeroplanes fly a bit lower than usual. As long as there isn't a steaming hole in the ground there is nothing to worry about. There are a few late cable car passengers who might disagree with your general point. Phanerothyme 03-12-2007, 19:06 If it is too far away to tell if it has props or jet engines then you can't possibly tell how high it is. Of course you can. It's simple if you can see the plane and you know how high you are. Tony 04-12-2007, 09:25 Errr... not wanting to start an argument, but it's not. Grandad.Malky 04-12-2007, 09:37 Angles and perspectives can do strange things a bit like the end of a rainbow that is just over the next hill but its not there when you climb the hill. davidathomas 04-12-2007, 09:50 Which hill were you on looking down? I know the area has hills, but vallys that planes can bomb along in??? google earth lat and long would help get a bigger picture of where you and it were. if you have the time that is Phanerothyme 04-12-2007, 19:21 Errr... not wanting to start an argument, but it's not. If it's below the horizon it's below you. If it's above the horizon, it's above you. Providing you have a good horizon, you can call it even if all you can see are the navigation lights. If you know your own altitude then you can make a positive statement like above 400m, below 400m etc. Tony 04-12-2007, 19:37 But the OP didn't say that they were looking down on it, and even if he / she did I don't know of any hills around Sheffield from which you could look down onto an aeroplane, unless it's the Police Helicopter landing. The highest bit of ground at that end of the city is Coal Aston at 731' and the strip up there doesn't have any night flying facilities. Sheffield Airport was closed on Bonfire Night. It's fair to surmise that the OP was mistaken, and that it was merely an airliner doing its usual thing. Incidentally the chances of a firework rocket hitting an aeroplane is about zero as the ones that you can buy only get up to a couple of hundred feet. |
