"Linacre reservoir's" is ideal for anyone who loves natural beauty, walking, exercise their dog, picnic on a nice day, there are three reservoir's, wood's, grassed area's, many different walk's, peace and quiet, pure air, lot's of free car park's, clean toilet's, information board's (very interesting ) giving all the history, fact's and figure's. If anyone would like to go and doesn't know where it is, contact me and I will give them direction's. :lol: :lol: :lol:

is it far? Where is it near?

You go to Cutthorpe, which is between Barlow and Chesterfield, turn right to Eastmoor and Baslow, follow that road ( it is very winding ) for approximately two miles, you will see the entrance on the left hand side, it has sign's at the side of the road, turn in there but drive slowly as there are speed hump's. You will see the various car park's as you go in, there is the main car park on your right hand side, before you go down the hill, as far as you are allowed to go. An artist has carved a tree with symbol's of fish, insect's and animal's.
If you don't know where Barlow is, go to Owler Bar, turn left at the roundabout and follow that road all the way through Millthorpe and Cordwell Valley to Barlow, the next village is Cutthorpe where you turn right. :lol: :lol: :D

ok, thanks for the info.

A lovely walk especially in autumn. It is said that in the early days of the reservoir (early Victorian) that the rich used water from it to water their gardens, the middle classes used it to wash their clothes and the poor used it to make soup! Quite a thought. :(

Don't want to cast a downer but last time I was up there (this last summer) it was full of chavs jumping off the dam walls into the water (despite the signs saying danger) and lots of dog dirt.

It is nice though... just wish people wouldn't abuse it :(

linacre is great, used to love that place! is a really good walk round, plus theres a great pub near it called the peacock, which does really nice food!

Fishing? Birding? Dogging? This place a zoo, or what? :confused:

i work in chesterfield and its a well known fact,it was also mentioned in a documentary on dogging,and its listed on dogging websites so i have been told,and no i havnt been

just visited the reservoirs today for the first stroll of the New Year, very pleasant surroundings.nice 2 hour walk with the dogs.
to finish it all off an excellent home cooked lunch @ the 3 merry lads - no prebooking even on Mew Years Day.

Have to agree, Linacre is a beautiful place. I used to go on a walk there almost every Sunday with my grandad. We would have a walk there in the morning and come back and my Nan would have cooked our Sunday lunch - it was fantastic.

Good times.
