View Full Version : The Pomona re-opens this week
The Pomona 05-11-2007, 13:35 The Pomona will (hopefully) be re-opening this weekend with a party planned for Saturday night and a soft opening on Friday night. A lot of things need to happen between now and then, most of which are in other people's hands so watch this space for developments.
Our plans for the pub are based around the fast and efficient service of quality products in an environment that everyone will feel comfortable. They also include the addition of live music to the entertainments roster as well as the reinstatement of SKY sports. Food will also play an important part of our development although this is not iminent as we have a lot of work to do to get this right
We are aware that people like to gossip and that everyone has opinions about things but we would appreciate it if people could do us the honour of not referring to previous tenants. Whatever has happened in the past remains in the past and should be dealt with by the people involved and us left out of it. We are looking forwards, not backwards.
Many thanks.
lyndsayx 05-11-2007, 14:24 well said :)
i'd be interested to know what type of live music will be on there.

Oh, so it won't still be crap then? Well, except for the unfortunate idiocy of Sky Sports.
I assume there will be at least two cask ales available?

neeeeeeeeeek 06-11-2007, 09:20 It can only get better! Good luck.
:)
Sky sports is only disturbing to people who don't like sport. Those who choose not to have it or cannot afford it at home, are grateful to pubs who do so they can watch whatever decent sporting attraction is available at the time. I have been to the Pomona to watch many an England football game in years gone by and the atmosphere has been really good, much better than in my living room.
That is great news. Good luck :)
Agreed nothing wrong with sky sports infact been in there many a time when large sections of the pub enjoying the fotty on tv.
If you dont like it plenty of pubs that dont have it.
Good luck with it anyway I think it has great potential.

jamesogt 10-11-2007, 18:58 If not, i got Abbeydale Moonshine and Peak Ales Bakewell Best on, Just down the road at the Devonshire!
The Devonshire has been the superior boozer down that end of Eccy Road for a long time now.
We are a group of local pensioners living around Ecclesall Rd and regularly meet for a drink and chat.Just wondered if the re-opening of the Pomona would be suitable for a night out.The other pubs seem to cater for teenagers and students.

If that is a serious post you would be happier at the Devonshire! Space to sit, no excessively loud music etc plenty of parking if anyone drives and probably the most local real ale on Eccy rd. In regards to evening and night times, im sure the rest are more peaceful in the day! (My average age of customer as such is closer to 40 than 18!)

Its seems unlikely BAZZO, although I wouldn't expect an answer.

The Pomona 15-11-2007, 17:47 Sky sports will be back on in The Pomona on Friday 16th November just in time for the England matches.
The majority of the kitchen equipment has arrived and is waiting to be fitted, then the kitchen should be 2 weeks away from opening if we can get a cook/chef in in time.
Our bar re-fit has been drawn up and is awaiting approval and will feature 8 cask ale taps, and 2 service stations that will be used eventually for cocktails.
It's been hard work, but we are getting there, thanks for all the support we've been shown by everyone on SF.
We're running a cheap bar from 5 until 7 this Friday so if you work locally and are looking for somewhere to watch the football, I think you should come and give us a try.

Sound promising.

I like sky sports but when i go abroad i dont look for an english bar as i like to take in the local culture of the area i am in, so not all sky sports fans are the same.
