Hey all

My wife and I have recently decided to go down the route of adopting, for various personal reasons I'd rather not go into on here.

We will shortly be visited by someone who will be assessing our suitability and explaining in more detail how it all works! I would much appreciate any advice, hints, tips etc from members who have gone down this route or know anything about it, any opinions anyone has about this... or who have indeed been adopted themselves.

Briano I have no words of wisdom, nor do I know much on the subject but I just wanted to say I think it's amazing that you're choosing this path.

Thanks DaBouncer, your message is much appreciated... I don't see it as doing anything 'special', it's just scary at the mo! lol :shocked:

I'm related to a Placement Officer (not in Sheffield).
They have always said that it irritates them if candidates try and put on a show.
They are (mostly) human beings with a natural understanding of the situation. They would prefer it if you can relax as much as possible and just be honest with them. This will not be their only visit before a positive decision can be made
They will appreciate it if you show a little understanding of the importance of the matter by tidying up, shaving etc. but don't go over the top to a level that is not natural to you.

Please also understand how slow the system can sometimes be (sonetimes without justification). You will be called on to have lots of patience.

Thanks cgksheff, I'm aware that this will be a long process and it does get very involved. And of course anyone in this situation would be keen to make a good impression, as we are! :cool:
