It seems that not everyone thinks that renewing ones vows is a lovely idea.

After ten years of ill health, damn near bankcrupcy, the loss of two parents and numerous other ****** events...Along with some wonderfu ones of course..We decided to renew our vows.

I ahve spent nearly twelve months planning this night, spent weeks and weeks writing out the 'vows' for a candle ceremony, planning the party and what I will wear etc etc etc. It seems though that one or two people are having a bit of a laugh about it.

'just doing it for the party', what for arnt they married anyway, oh what rubbish, oh more American ideas being...

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Hubbs and I want to stand up infront of our family and friends and renew our marriage....Right now I am feeling a litle embarassed and pretty much like calling it all off, I feel like a bit of a laughing stock right now. :sad:

Obvioulsy its going to be a HUGE party but its the renewal that means things to me....

Tell the naysayers to shove it. :)

It's for you and your husband - don't sweat the saddoes who try and pull you down.

It's your life and your relationship; when you want their advice you'll ask for it. For now, just knock 'em off the guest list. :)

It sounds as though it's going to be a very special event for you both. If you think certain people are going to ruin it for you with their crass attitude, ask them not to attend after all, as it's obviously not their kind of thing.

They're probably really envious that you two actually want to reaffirm your commitment to one another and masking their jealousy by making silly comments.

why on earth not, a renewal is surely a celebration, why shouldnt you stand there and show everyone you're still very much together? Dont invite the miserable ones if they are going to be like that, would they prefer to celebrate a divorce or something??

i too am having my vows renewed next nov, its our 25th wedding anniversary
so im combinding both i have told everyone they have to wear silver too lol
im having a white and silver dress(sticky out one.lol) bridesmaids(the origanal ones.)
my flowers are white with silver ribbons...
i was married in a regestry office at the time,
but going to church this time. (limmo booked)
i wont be walking down the isle to "here comes the bride though"..lol
(maybe lets go round again.....lol
and being a lot OLDER and WISER now though.
and just think no one will be saying "ARE YOU SURE.YOU WANT TO MARRY HIM" LOL
it was a friend who told me she was going to do it but never did and now is regreting it.
i also have had the WHY.??? COST??? WHAT FOR'S.??
and the WELL MY VOWS STILL COUNT Brigade!!!
and the **just go abroad for 2 weeks you two**
definitly be cheaper,
but i dont want to regret it for the rest of my life now.
i want to have the wedding i wanted back then but couldn't afford.

its my last chance and i'm going for it and certaily going to enjoy every minute.
i'm enjoying sorting it all out now and its a whole year away.

You do it for yourselves because you want to and it means something to you. If your friends and family want to support you they will be there for you. If they don't believe in it, then I'm afraid you'll just have to accept that, but don't let it get in the way of something which is important to you.

I think it's a great idea! I've been married almost 5 years and I'm planning on renewing our vows at 15th anniversary!

I'm doing it because we got married on the cheap as we just wanted to be married (well I did anyway!). We couldn't afford all the extras that would have been great, so when I can afford to I'm going to do what I want to!

Tell anyone who doesn't like the sound of it, to not come, it's completely your decision and I think you'll have a great time, it's nice to see some romance around.

`I think its an amazing idea infact my mum has been married for 16 years to a fantastic guy and they are still very much in love they have considered renewing theres vows but money is very tight at the moment so not really possible for them. if you can do this go for it ^_^
