Another "Rongate"..... Apparently he made some 'jokey' comment about the Asian Tsunami on "You're on Sky Sports" the other night, and they've sacked his ass.

Anyone know what he said?

Not heard about this, they will miss him though he is one of the funniest around and isn't afraid of speaking his mind.

Yet no one from Sky was sacked when instead of observing the 3 minutes silence for Tsunami victims like almost every other channel Sky Sports continued showing their documentary..........A surfing show “The Quest for the Biggest Wave”

Just wait for the pious documentary, 'When Rodney went to Indonesia', featuring Mr Marsh wandering around with a furrowed brow, occasionally stopping to pick up a piece of rubble, stare up towards the sky, and wipe a small tear from his eye...

I'm glad he's off Sky Sports anyway. He never made any sense on Soccer Saturday and he was an embarrassment to himself most of the time. That such an awful joke (that's a month out of date) got him the boot is pretty appropriate.

I didn't hear the joke nor probably want to, but what I can't understand is that Rodney Marsh gets the boot whilst the true joker in the pack, George Best, remains.

Funny old world.

from The Guardian
Marsh's comment involved a pun on the word tsunami in which he said David Beckham had turned down a £10m contract to sign for Newcastle because he could not possibly go there after what the Toon Army did to Thailand.

Going off topic by a mile, i always think it’s interesting to judge how bad a disaster is by how long it takes before people make jokes about. It was a week with 9/11, three weeks for Princes Diana and two months for Dunblane.

This is the first Tsunami joke I've heard.

Why can't pundits ever be sacked for consistently talking out of their backsides?

Ron Atkinson was a terrible summariser, as was Rodney Marsh - but they never lose their jobs through not actually being very good at them.

Sky pundit Rodney Marsh has been sacked after he made offensive comments on air about the Asian tsunami disaster.

Marsh joked that David Beckham had turned down a move to Newcastle after hearing of the trouble with the "Toon Army in Asia".

What are peoples opinions on this?

Thanks for that.

No wonder, I didn't find it. Entertainment.

I believe it is more appropriate in Sports/General chat.

I'll merge this and move it.

Rodney has always been outspoken. I never liked him as a front line pundit but I did find him amusing on the late night phone in show.

Thats ridiculous - and quite a funny joke:D

Thing is its not reallly a joke about the tsunami its about Beckham being thick. Whatever happened to common sense? Its not exactly a sacking offence is it?:loopy:

They'd probably been looking for an excuse to sack him for ages :P

Is that it?

You'd need to be pretty hyper sensetive to be offended by that.
I hear far worse than that several times a day at work.

Just curious what people thought after Rodney Marsh was sacked earlier this week by Sky Sports?

For those that don't know, he made a joke during the live night-time phone in show about the asian tsunami - saying that David Beckham would never sign for Newcastle United because he had heard about the terrible things that the Toon Army had done in Asia.

So... what does Sheffield think???

(PS: woohoo - my first topic start :D )

Back on topic.

I have heard that ALL of sky's employees were warned to try to avoid using the words 'Toon Army' after the disaster. Marsh cleary either did not get that message or didn't care.
