I'm having a realy annoying problem with my email at the moment.

Our PC runs on Xp and has 3 seperate user log ins, ome for me and each of the kids.

Each setting has a seperate email address, set up through outlook express. It's always worked fine.

Last week, I tried to send an email to my sons account. It came through to mine! I tried to send him an E Card. It came through to mine! I have tried this several times and even forwarding things send them through to mine.

I have checked tools/accounts and it is set up correctly. His email is NOT in my settings yet his mail is being delivered to my account!

Anyone any ideas please?

Thank you.

Are you the 'postmaster'? is there a spelling mistake in his address on these stray mails? Who's your service provider?

I have checked the spelling and it's all ok.

My ISP is Blueyonder broadband.

Not sure what 'postmaster' means.

We're with plusnet, so we have our own domain name. Our address is '(anythingyoujollywellwant) @(our domain name).f9.co.uk, so all mail arrives to the same place at F9, but it can be 'sorted' if we wanted to set up separate inboxes. Anything that gets sent to the domain without a proper prefix defalts to the postmaster or main account.

(or something like that anyway)

Sounds like it doesn't apply to you though, if you're with blueyonder.

I've been having problems with Blueyonder as well and when I spoke to their technical support they said that they were aware of problems and were looking into it. Not a great deal of help as they couldn't tell me how long it'd be before the situation was resolved, I'd sent e-mails that didn't get delivered as they 'bounced' between two recipitents or two servers whatever that means. My problems only started when I upgraded to AVGfree which mucked around with my Norton scanning as well.

So wallbuilder, you reckon it's a problem with Blueyonder then?

Anyone else had this problem?

Sounds to me like it may be a problem with Telewest.

If their (ahem) "techies" told you that they were aware of problems, then it could be that their mail server setting are all messed up. Usually you will have a catch-all account, & any mails not addressed to an email address that you have actually specified or set up will go to the catch-all account. If everything is coming through to your account, it could possibly be that your account is the catch-all account, & that they are having problems with their mail server using additional accounts...

One way to test this

1) make a new login in windows (can delete it again after)

2) set up a new email address, & set that address up on the new logon.

3) get someone (preferably external, or use a free webmail account) to send the new mail address a test mail...

If your address gets the mail rather than the new address, it would suggest that it's their mail server.

i take it you have set up 3 different accounts and not 3 aliases

ie if your account name was aaaa00000

you need to set 1 alias here

aaaa0000_2

i here

aaaa0000_3

i here etc etc

or all mail will come to those collecting at the time,

*My* emails are all the same account (mailbox), just different aliases. The kids and a spare one (that I don't actually use yet!) are *******_2.(mailbox) with different aliases.

They have always been set up like this and up till last week, the mail always went to the correct email address. This is why I can't understand why suddenly it doesn't work. My son can send himself emails from his account and they are received at his account (I tried just to check!) He can send me emails, no problem. The problem is when I try to send him emails, even
e-cards from a site send to my address when they have his email address on them!

I will try setting up 3 different mailboxes and see if that solves the problem. I just can't understand why it has always worked (for about 4 months) but now won't.

if it did work like that, then it was a complete fluke!, because it downloads all mail from thexxxx0000 part and not the alias

I am lucky enough to have both blueyonder and telewest double trouble! And also 300 live web pages, each with an email address which comes to one of my e-mail accounts.
As a consequence I am now suffering with about 100-200 spam e-mails every day.
My programmer mate has told me to change my "mailto" links to jpegs and I will get less trouble, but after 5-6 years live, I think that most of the damage is done.
The spam e-mails have become so bad this week that I have suspected a virus and have double checked my PCs and have found nothing at all, although my home PC is getting a bit flakey.

I fully expect to have a total reinstall every few years, but I wonder if there is a new generation of virus around which is causing an inordinate amount of trouble...

anyone??

surly for that many emails you'd be better off with an email server program like MDaemon from http://www.zensoftware.co.uk/ this includes spam & antivirus protection :S

I just got round to checking my mailbox set up in Blueyonder selfcare.

All my email addys are in one mailbox ********

My sons is in mailbox ********_2

My daughters is in mailbox ********_3

So as far as I am aware, they are set up correctly. This is how they have always been set up (I was wrong before saying they were just different aliases)

As I said, they all worked perfectly well up till a couple of weeks ago, but now ALL mail for all 3 mailboxes is delivered to mine.

What the hell is going on?

HELP please!!!!!!

Well I haven't changed anything, left it all as it was, 3 different log ins, 3 separate mailboxes etc.

I checked again today and lo and behold, it's working fine now!

No idea what was going on!

Bloody computers!
