I think most travel agents will do WU transfers for you. You need to have the name and address of the bank your friend will use to collect the money. When you deposit the money with the agent you'll be given a receipt and a deposit number which your friend has to quote when collecting the money. Your friend will of course also need some form of ID. Not sure of the charge but I think it's a sliding scale depending on the amount.
Theres a shop called 'The Money Shop' in town - its opposite the Argos Superstore and next to CO-OP. They do Western Union there.

ps wouldnt it be possible to sends funds by paypal??
There's travel agents on Chesterfield Road who do it, used for e-Bay purchases and sales in the past.
It's easy enough although PayPal has it's virtues for anyone who has an e-mail addy and a bank account, it's instant and has its own security devices.
I'd also check at the post office as I know the one on West Street does Western Union Transfers they have it plastered all over the window and there is a sign outside saying so.

Paypal still requires you to have a bank account to physically withdraw funds in to, and it takes about a week to do the tranfer from PP to a bank account.
WU can shift money in a matter of minutes and the recipient can just take the money as cash.
