Janis Joplin? Whatever you think of her she is a unique and superb talent

No, she's not the 21st century's Janis Joplin.

And whilst I'm here, I don't like her face, her music, her face or her attitude. Or her face.

Or that dance she does where she looks like a crippled flamingo.

Or her face.

The only reason her music and voice stands out today, is because of the appaling excuse for female singers we currently have in the charts, and around today.

She can really sing and has a characterful voice with a deep musical knowledge. When most of the women pop singers sing through so many effects you cannot tell their voices or songs apart.

I like her, but I don't want to hear about her personal problems or see her revolting tattooes.

I just love her music, not too bothered what her face looks like . Shame about her private life but she chose that road. Maybe she will become the modern day Janis Joplin, but at least Amy can sing.

You've got to admit that Amy made an improvement to that record.

Classic!

My cat with a severe sore throat would have made a better effort !
Seriously though the woman is a real talent. I just wish she would behave and she might live long enough to share it.

She can sing but she is slowly destroying her own career with her personal life.

im inclined to agree.

i love amy winebox and the album 'frank' sums up this year for me...however, im sometimes loath to admit this in case people think i condone her lifestyle/the portrayal of her lifestyle in the press.

i love her music, i can manage the outward appearance ( even if i did prefer her look a few years ago) and i can cope with the dance moves (anyone whos seen me drunk will agree theres not much difference)...but i truly hope she doesnt lose the plot completely before i get to enjoy her music more.

Natural born talent...her voice...I hope she survives, but sadly I think fame itself destroys the very thing that created it in the first place.

Can't we all just hope that her and Doherty go the same way? i.e. 6 foot under as soon as possible?

Let me put it another way...

Actually, no I'll just repeat myself. I don't like her songs and I don't like her attitude.

Or her face.

Or the crippled flamingo dance.

Well said
There was a rumour about them doing a duet  Personally I would rather see them doing a pact.

Good voice but not in the same mould-breaking capacity as Joplin.

I guess today it's hard for musicians to have the same impact as someone in the 1960s purely because there were more taboos to be broken back then.

However, they did both start their recording careers at 20, and both had / have a tendency towards self destruction.

But I sort of get the feel that Winehouse embraces that aspect of her personality more than Janis did. Joplin died at 27 from accidental heroin overdose, probably excacerbated by alcohol, I think. Winehouse needs to work hard against her demons to avoid a similar early death. :(

For me she's yet another female singer with a tremendous voice but a brace of rubbish songs. Every so often you get a woman with a bellowing voice and different image like this but they always give her a load of tossy Jazz/Blues rubbish to sing - same thing happened with Alison Moyet. And if they were writing their own songs then that makes it worse. ;)

I'd rather have someone with a dodgy voice but singing decent songs.

It's just boring wine bar music to me - reminds me of what Arctic Monkeys were on about in Fake Tales Of San Francisco...

In pure ability I would say shes up there with Joplin, the self destructive streak is incidental, you could also compare her to Billie Holliday in the same way.

In todays bland, corporate, homogenised, bubble gum pop world shes a breath of fresh air

I wouldn't disagree, but basically achievement needs to be measured against the times. They both had different challenges.

I'm not sure she IS such a breath of fresh air, though. Musicians peeing their talent away through drink and drugs has been around since Robert Johnson. I'd like to see more disciplined artists who deliver without killing themselves. That WOULD be a mould breaking event!

I definitely think that Amy Winebottle is better heard than seen, I think she has a voice that sounds good even without the electronic assistance that many singers need. I don't agree with her lifestyle but then that's her choice. Many people felt that Joplin's singing wouldn't have had it's raw edge had she not had a wild lifestyle.

In her dreams, she'd never be as cool.
