Is it normal to not have a midwife yet?

One of my friends (also with a high risk pregnancy) had to arrange things herself with the Jessop when she got as far as 20 weeks without even being booked in anywhere.

Sad to say, but things sound rather disorganised at the moment. Rather similar to another person I know being sent repeated appointments for scans despite having lost her baby in the same hospital, and her husband ringing up in tears to ask them to stop.

Im 12 weeks on Tues and have had my booking in appointment with the midwife, got scan on Monday and she has also given me an appointment for blood tests in 15th week. So it looks like im doing fairly well. Although I am in Rotherham not Sheffield. Also midwife gave me her mobile and have contacted her and she has always been available and helpful.

These things are mega important, try contacting your gp and see what they say or Jessops, be persistant. You are entitled to this and there is no way you shouldnt be getting it.

Hope it gets sorted.

I didn't have a midwife for ages either. I told my GP I was pregnant who got me the scan appt, then I saw a woman at my scan who went through my notes there. Then, told me to book an appt through my GP surgery for a midwife. I did that and then my midwife came to my house around 14 weeks. The 15 weeks bloods were taken by another woman, health professional she said she was (I think). :) Ring up the midwife office and ask there, the numbers ive got for there are.. 01142268020 and 01142268301 :)

I hope this means you're feeling better?

I'm afraid this sounds like something you're going to have to actively pursue, which is terrible considering the difficulties you've had so far. It makes me furious.

Chase it up, call the numbers Gina has given you and bug your GPs until you get seen. Good luck. I hope they pull their fingers out quickly.

I also had probs in the early stages so I bypassed the midwife for being useless and called Jessops. I arranged my own scan and then ended up on consultant led care because of the forthcoming multiple birth and frequent scans required.

I ended up seeing the midwife 3 times in total which was poor, once to book in at the GPs when she was less than interested. Once at my request when I hadn't felt one of the twins move for waaaay too long, she couldn't care less then either and finally once after the birth when she checked my scar, made a few notes and finally disappeared out of my life forever :)

Call Jessops and get an appointment booked ASAP. Make sure they know your dates so they can do your bloods on time and don't leave your care to them to arrange, be proactive :)
